How to display and view hidden files / folders on the Mac

Today's launch of the article is how to display and view hidden files / folders on your Mac. For privacy or security reasons, for various reasons, we need to hide certain files on a Mac computer. These files or folders by default for the smooth running of hidden Mac, but if you need to view them for inspection or repair, we will provide you with several ways to display hidden files and folders on your Mac.

Method 1: Use a shortcut on your Mac to view hidden files and folders

View hidden files on Mac / One of the easiest methods is to use a folder keyboard shortcuts to show hidden files. However, this method requires that you remember them save path.

Use a shortcut to access the hidden ~ / Library folder

Step 1: Open the Finder.

Step 2: Expand the "Go" menu.

Step 3: Press the Option key will display the Library folder.

View other hidden files with a shortcut / folder

Step 1: On the Finder menu, click Go>  Go to Folder ... .

Step 2: Enter your placement confidential files / folders to save the path and file name, such as "~ / Desktop / SecretFiles". Then press the "Go" button or press Enter.

Step 3: Open a Finder window, first click another folder.

Step 4: Click your saved confidential documents folder, then press Command + Shift + period ( ".") Key . Then hidden files will be displayed. (Note: Most of the default hidden files begin with. ".")

Method 2: Show hidden files in the terminal using the Finder

If you do not remember or do not know the exact path of secret documents, you can access them through the terminal:

Step 1: start by the terminal or tickets from Finder> utility in Spotlight terminal.

Step 2: Input: defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE. Click Enter. Then enter: killall the Finder . Click Enter. 

Step 3: Finder icon in the Dock, right-click and select "Hide."

Step 4: Click the Finder icon again to start it. All hidden files / folders, whether it is a system file or deliberately hidden files / folders should now be displayed. Find the one you want.

Tip: Check the secret files, if you want to hide them again. In the "Terminal" window, execute these two commands, and then the secret files / folders will disappear again.

  • defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE

  • killall Finder

Method 3: Use Terminal unhide files

If you have ever used that contains "hidden" command will hide some files in Terminal, then unhide them very simple:

Step 1: Open the "Terminal" window, enter "chflags nohidden". Do not forget that after the last word spaces.

Step 2: A hidden file / folder drag and drop "Terminal" window.

Step 3: Press Enter to run the command. Then, you will find previously hidden data is now visible.

Another method is to return to the previous hidden commands and modify it:

Step 1: In the "Terminal" window, press the Up arrow key scan all previous commands.

Step 2: Find previously hidden commands. Press the left arrow key to move to the word "hidden" and change it to "nohidden". Also, do not forget the last space.

Step 3: Press Enter to run it.
