Facebook plans to build its own operating system instead of Android

According to case reports, Facebook plans to build its own operating system instead of Android, to reduce dependence on Google software, in particular, greater efforts to develop its own hardware in the VR and smart devices market in the company.

In 2013, Facebook was the first attempt to invest inside the operating system, developed a custom version of Android to HTC phones, many people referred Facebook phone. However, the project is almost in a state of failure, because it never had a concern. So, this Facebook plans to adopt a different approach.

The company does not want one of its top markets, namely the smart phone to compete with Google, but to establish a platform to power its VR and intelligent devices without Google services.

Although this plan was never officially confirmed, but for  The Information  Statement, the hardware responsible for Facebook's Andrew Bosworth suggests that the company's goal is not Google's future. "[We] want to make sure that we make room for the next generation. We believe that we can not trust the market or competitor to ensure this. Therefore, we will do it yourself."

Facebook's AR glasses are expected to be available in 2023, and therefore, presumably, the company hopes that this operating system can be ready in two to three years.

The Verge  report shows that Facebook is responsible for the push of AR and VR software development powered solely the responsibility of the Mark Lucovsky, and Mark Lucovsky also responsible for the development of Microsoft Windows NT operating system.

However, Facebook's ambitions are not limited to hardware and software. From the exterior, the company also wants to build a custom chip hardware, and voice assistant has also been under development. Clearly, although the social network Facebook itself will continue as the basis for a long-term plan, but the company's goal did not just become a social networking company.
