IBM after "reviewing open source priority" suspected abandon Swift

Swift announcement on the forum indicated that IBM is to stop its work on the server side of Swift. IBM team leader Ian Partridge and technical architect Chris Bailey is about to leave Swift workgroup server.

Apple's Swift language release in 2014, specifically for OS X and iOS application development and soon became popular of modern programming languages. By 2015, Apple announced Swift open source, and will be built for Linux and Apple operating systems. "IBM learned this in mind, it is through partner channels and Apple launched a dialogue, and we started working on porting library Swift in most major Foundation to Linux." In January of this year, IBM in a blog mention in to.

Thus, in February 2016 shortly after, IBM released  Kitura , this is a building with Swift's server-side frameworks. It is designed to provide a simple way for mobile developers Swift has the skills to use the same language to build server components, API or Web application.

Since then, the mirror frame with Docker and Helm chart with development, now it can be easily deployed to Kubernetes, IBM provides commercial support for this purpose. Or in the above blog, IBM has said, "is working with numerous Fortune 500 companies, which are ready to use Swift in some way on the server, most of them involving Kitura."

But these words have now been called into question. Swift Forum Announcements about the server on the working group pointed out that:

@IanPartridge and @Chris_Bailey informed the Panel that, after a review of its open source IBM priority, have decided they will no longer continue to use the Swift in 2020. Therefore, they both withdrew from the working group.

@IanPartridge will be responsible for the transfer of Swift Docker mirror, and look for new community leaders.

Partridge has been rapidly updated his LinkedIn information, the page now shows he is committed to "use Kafka Event-driven service and respond to the decline in the Kubernetes". This may be the clue, it reveals about IBM now "open source priority" where is. Maintaining niche markets developer of server-side synchronization Swift compared to direct development K8s has a greater potential.

Kitura is open source, but it does not seem active, suggesting synergy between the mobile client and server-side developers hope the way IBM has not yet been achieved.

Today, Kitura IBM seems to be a lack of sponsorship, how it will develop? How the community will be back down?
