Regular expression matching a single character

Matches a single character 
. Matches any character (except \ n-) 
[] matches [] characters listed in 
\ d match numbers 0-9 
\ D matches non-numeric 
\ s match blank, i.e., the space 
\ S matches non-blank 
\ w matching words character 
\ W matches non-word character
