IP address and MAC address difference

• Different length: IP address is 32-bit (binary), MAC address 48 (hexadecimal).
• Depending on the assignment: assign IP addresses based distribution network topology, MAC address is based on the manufacturer.
• Addressing a different protocol layers: IP address applied to OSI layer 3 (network layer), and the MAC address of an application in the second layer OSI (data link layer)
