VS 2008 a great new feature is support for multi-objective framework. This allows you to use VS 2008 to develop .NET 2.0, .NET 3.0 and .NET 3.5 projects without requiring you to upgrade the project to the latest version of the .NET Framework in order to take advantage of the new features (like JavaScript Intellisense in 2008 Visual Studio, JavaScript debugging, program editing, nested master pages, as well as improved web designer and css properties, all of which are available for .NET 2.0,3.0 and 3.5 projects).
ASP.NET AJAX 1.0 support multi-target
