Spring 2019 - Software engineering principles and methods - assistant summary

Summary

      This semester, the course a total of fifteen weeks teaching. I started to follow from the beginning of the teaching assistant in a total of 15 weeks, it is responsible for the software range 1 large classes, a total of 91 people. I will summarize the following aspects of the work done this semester.


 First, the blog reviews

      It is noteworthy that, I summed up the entire review work done enough, hope that the assistants can bring attention. First of all, I think in the whole process, in fact, not only to evaluate the students review the work or merely pointed out that the problem is over, but should be a review as the basis, the students need to find a place of progress. For example, my students after reading a blog, he found a lot of very perfunctory or blog content problems, then I should not just write down comments in his blog, but should reflect further on the students in the learning process is not encountered any problem, is not it need more help. At this time, as a teaching assistant should take the initiative to find the students, then his understanding of the actual situation according to his most recent job feedback, and provide help according to their actual situation. I think we should do this in order to make work Comments play a positive role, thereby enabling the students to get a real improvement in the process of interaction with the assistant. TA can not be concerned about the students, not just students that learning is its own thing, do not give low scores, well give high marks. This approach will only lead to difficulties students lose interest in learning, slowly give up. Second, it is the review process, in fact, you can find a lot of students appeared in the same issue. As a teaching assistant should draw attention to these issues, and to work together to summarize each issue, in the form of a document, attached to the right solution, posted to the group inside the class, so that students pay attention to.        First as a teaching assistant, lack of experience and hopes to improve, get better teaching results.

Second, job design

      The main job is to help teachers to complete the design. This part of it for me is relatively large harvest. Since they are in the role of student, teacher assignments done directly before just fine, but in fact is how the teacher for the design work is not clear. The teaching assistants work gave me a chance to learn how to design work for the students. To make this work, we need to have some knowledge of the subject, to understand what needs to master the content students should learn to have knowledge of what. In the process, I also own knowledge had a consolidated. In addition, also learn new knowledge. Grateful for the opportunity this time assistant, has this experience made me grow a lot.

Third, the job rate

      能够将每次的作业成绩以这样的方式呈现出来给同学们看,我觉得是一种很好的方法。这种方法能够使同学看出自己在整个班的水平,并且可以直观的判断自己是否在提升。但是不得不说,可以从第一张图里面看出,人数越多,线条就变得越密密麻麻,其实也不那么利于同学们看自己的成绩累计情况了。我觉得千帆竞发图比较适合反映人数比较少的班级成绩情况,大家可以根据实际情况进行选择。


个人感受和建议

       这十五周的助教工作让我有了一次不一样的学习体验,让我收获了很多。以下是根据工作提出的一些建议:

       1. 助教的人数可以根据班级的人数进行调整。在我这次做助教的过程中,我需要和老师一起负责的班级共有91个人,这个人数对应于只有一个助教,使得助教不仅工作量比较大而且不能做到很细致地对待每一个同学的作业和他们提出的问题。作为助教应该能够和学生进行充分地互动,这样才能够更好地帮助到他们。所以,在人数比较多的班级,一个班可以根据实际情况安排助教的个数。

       2. 助教前期也应该进行工作培训。这次我做助教之前虽然进行了一些网上的培训,但是我发现后面做实际操作过程中还是不太明白自己应该做些什么,在一些事情上缺乏主动性,除了点评博客和评分等工作外,其他工作要等到每次老师安排工作给我的时候,我才去做。如果能够有一些培训,让助教很明确自己在这个过程中所要做的工作有哪些,这样助教就可以自发地去做一些工作,让整个教学过程更好地推进。

       3. 助教要与学生和老师多沟通。有时针对一个同学的作业问题,我只是在博客下面评论了,而没有进一步给学生进行沟通,就像有一次班上有个同学的作业有很多问题,但是我只是在评论下评论了“请继续完善博客”,而没有主动去帮助这名同学解决问题。是后来一个老师发现了,然后在群里提出来了,让我去帮助这名同学,我才主动找到他。其实后来这名同学就是在完成作业的时候有很多不理解的地方,但是又找不到人解决,在我的帮助下,他的博客也进一步的完善了。当时我就意识到,助教应该及时与学生进行沟通交流,以便更好的掌握他们的情况。

      最后,对于此次助教工作的感悟:做助教工作的起因是因为当时上陈老师的课的时候很喜欢这门课,我认为这门课教会了我很多东西,解决了我对于软件工程的一些困惑。然后也遇上了陈老师正在招收助教,就主动申请了做助教工作。其中一个原因是想再巩固一遍这门课的内容,另一个原因是想体验一下教育工作。

      很感谢有这次机会,也感谢陈老师和助教群里面老师们的指导和帮助。我确实通过做这个工作,巩固了课程知识,也学到了很多课本中没有的知识,深感教育工作者的艰辛,我会更加珍惜学习的机会,希望以后有机会还可以做助教!
