The reason: the new user's default is to use the dash, rather than our usual bash, just change the user login shell on the line.
Command: sudo usermod -s / bin / bash username
Remember to get sudo permissions, sudo is to join additional groups.
Command: sudo usermod -G sudo user name
Finally reconnect on the line.
