RIP Protocol Overview

A, RIP protocol
1.Routing Information Protocol (Routing Information Protocol) for short.
A routing protocol based on distance vector (Distance-Vector).
3. For small and medium networks, is divided into RIPv1 and RIPv2.
4. Support split horizon, poison reverse, and triggered updates mechanism to prevent routing loops.
The transmission based on UDP port number 520.
Second, the disadvantage of RIPv1 and RIPv2 improve the
shortcomings 1.RIPv1 of
(1) do not carry mask when sending packets, routing and switching process sometimes cause errors.
(2) does not support authentication.
(3) protocol packets only in broadcast mode.
The improved 2.RIPv2
(1) A Classless Routing Protocol (Classless Routing Protocol).
(2) packets carry mask information, support VLSM (Variable Length Subnet Masks) and CIDR.
(3) support for routing updates to the multicast group, the multicast address is 224.0.0.9, reduce network and system resource consumption.
(4) support for packet authentication protocol and provides a simple authentication and MD5 authentication to enhance security.
