3DMAX solutions to display driver problems

Problems related to 3DMAX and graphics card drivers mainly include the following situations:

1. When 3DMAX starts, an interface like this pops up:

2. The main toolbar button does not display, or it does not display until the mouse is moved up (refresh problem).

3. The viewport menu does not appear or is not fully displayed.

problem analysis:

First of all, you should consider whether the graphics card driver is installed or whether it was installed successfully. Especially after installing a new system.

Secondly, if there is no problem with the graphics card driver installation, then the problem usually lies in the compatibility of the graphics card model and 3DMAX. The solution is as follows.

solution:

If your computer operating system or graphics card does not support the 3DMAX default display driver, you can solve the problem by modifying the 3DMAX display driver. There are three ways to modify the 3DMAX display driver:

The first method: Convert through the Windows program menu.

Click the Windows "Start" menu in the lower left corner of the computer, select "All Programs-Autodesk-Autodesk 3ds Max xxxx-Change Graphics Mode" to start 3DMAX, and then select other display drivers in the pop-up list.

Second method: Initialize startup through DOS command line.

1. Click the "Start" menu in the lower left corner of Windows and enter "cmd" in the search bar to start the DOS command line window:

2. Switch to the 3DMAX installation root directory, enter: 3dsmax.exe –h, and then press Enter to start the 3DMAX software.

3. Select another display driver in the pop-up "Display Driver Selection" list.

The third method: 3DMAX can be started and modified through the "Preferences" menu.

1. Click "Main Menu-Customize-Preferences".

2. Select the "Viewport" tab and click the "Select Driver" button.

3. Select the appropriate display driver in the "Display Driver Selection" panel list.

*If the operating system or graphics card does not support Direct3D 11, Nitrous Direct3D 9 is the default setting.

Display Driver drop-down list:

Lets you select which driver to use. If you change the active driver, 3ds Max prompts you that you must exit and then restart 3ds Max before the newly selected driver becomes active.

★Nitrous Direct3D 11 (Recommended) (Default setting.) Select Nitrous graphics driver and viewport system. For a description of Nitrous functionality, see Viewport configuration options, specifically the options on the Visual Style and Appearance panel.

This driver requires Direct3D 11.

★Nitrous Direct3D 9 Select Nitrous graphics driver and viewport system.

This driver requires Direct3D 9.0.

★Nitrous Software Select Nitrous graphics driver and viewport system.

Nitrous software drivers do not require hardware support. Although it is slower than the hardware-supported version, it supports multi-threading and multiple CPUs.

Nitrous software drivers are supported by WARP.

★Old Direct3D Select the old Direct3D driver.

This driver requires DirectX 9.0c or higher.

Viewport configuration options for legacy viewports are different from those for Nitrous viewports. Additional options for legacy Direct3D drivers are in the Configure Direct3D dialog box.

★Old version of OpenGL Select the old version of OpenGL driver.

For OpenGL drivers, 3ds Max uses the display driver installed for your operating system. If your system has any form of hardware graphics acceleration, you can use the OpenGL driver.

Viewport configuration options for legacy viewports are different from those for Nitrous viewports. Additional options for legacy OpenGL drivers are in the Configure OpenGL dialog box.

Warning: The OpenGL driver cannot preview shadows or ambient occlusion in the viewport.

advanced settings:

Only available when the "Legacy Direct3D" driver is selected. Click to open the Direct3D Driver Settings dialog box.

*The above method of modifying the display driver can only improve the 3DMAX display problems. If you want to completely solve this kind of problem, you have to start with hardware compatibility: replace the display card with a better compatible with 3DMAX.

*3DMAX Certified Hardware: For 3DMAX software to run optimally, you should choose an Autodesk certified graphics card.
