The bottom status bar of Windows 11 Notepad will display "Character Count"

Windows 11’s built-in text editor “Notepad” adds an important feature: displaying character count statistics in the bottom status bar .

This function will display the total number of characters entered by the user , including letters, numbers, symbols, spaces, punctuation marks, etc. "Character Count" is not the same as "Word Count". Word Count only counts the total number of words in the document, which some may find more useful than Character Count.

According to Microsoft's announcement , the character count in Notepad works in two ways. By default, the text editor will display the document's character count on the status bar at the bottom of the window. If the user selects text in the document, Notepad will display the character count of the selected text and the total count of the document respectively.
