Seata enters Apache incubator

The Apache Foundation mailing list shows that on October 29, 2023, the distributed transaction open source project Seata officially passed the voting resolution of the Apache Foundation and officially became an Apache incubator project.

Seata is an open source distributed transaction solution dedicated to providing high-performance and easy-to-use distributed transaction services under a microservice architecture.

In January 2019, Alibaba's middleware team launched the open source project Fescar (Fast & EaSy Commit And Rollback) to work with the community to build an open source distributed transaction solution. Fescar's vision is to make the use of distributed transactions as simple and efficient as the use of local transactions, and gradually solve all the problems encountered by developers in distributed transactions.

After Fescar was open sourced, Ant Financial joined the Fescar community to participate in co-construction and contributed the TCC model to Fescar version 0.4.0.

In order to create a more neutral, open and ecologically rich distributed transaction open source community, after voting by the core members of the community, we decided to upgrade the brand of Fescar and renamed it Seata, which means: Simple Extensible Autonomous Transaction Architecture, which is a set of One-stop distributed transaction solution.
