Please note: Configuring shared folders so that others can access them without entering an account and password may pose a security risk. Please make sure you understand this and operate within an appropriate network environment.
The following instructions are based on Windows systems:
Step 1: Share the folder
-
Find the folder you want to share, right-click and select "Properties".
-
Go to the Sharing tab and click Advanced Sharing.
-
Check "Share this folder" and click "Permissions".
-
In the "Permissions" window, you can add users or set permissions for "Everyone". Typically, you'll want to give at least "read" permission.
-
Confirm the settings and close all property windows.
Step 2: Remove account password protection (optional, but need to be cautious)
-
Open the Control Panel.
-
Click on "Network & Internet".
-
Click "Network and Sharing Center."
-
In the left column, click "Change advanced sharing settings."
-
Expand your network configuration (usually "Private").
-
In the Password protected sharing section, select Turn off password protected sharing.
-
Click "Save Changes."
Step 3: Map the other party to a drive letter
-
The other party opens "My Computer" or "This PC".
-
Select "Computer" on the top toolbar, then click "Map Network Drive."
-
Enter the network path to your shared folder in the "Folder" field,
\\192.168.1.1\SharedFolder
e.g. (\specified folder\specified file) -
If you turn off password-protected sharing, you can check "Don't use credentials when connecting".
-
Click "Done".
At this point, the other party should be able to see a mapped network drive and can access the shared folder just like a local disk.
Again, such a setup may pose a security risk, so make sure you are operating in a secure and controlled network environment.
Step 4: How to Cancel Sharing
1. Select the shared folder on your computer, right-click and select "Properties".
2. Go to the Sharing tab and click Advanced Sharing.
- Uncheck "Share this folder"
