Set up free overseas remote desktop in 10 minutes

Preface

This tutorial will introduce you to how to easily set up your own remote desktop using the free plan of Amazon Lightsail service. Relying on Amazon Global Availability Zones, you can build remote desktops that meet your configuration needs anywhere in the world.

This tutorial requires you to have an Amazon Cloud Technology overseas account first. Register for an Amazon Cloud Technology account now to enjoy a 12-month free package , including EC2 and other popular products.

Tutorial description

Enter the development environment 

Click the " Login Console " button on the right to enter the development environment. If you do not have an account yet, please register an account first.

For overseas regional business or personal use, please register an " overseas regional account ";

For China regional business (requires corporate business license certification), please register a " China regional account ".

Step 1 - Launch an Amazon Lightsail instance

Find Lightsail under (Compute) in All Services  and click to open the Lightsail control panel.

After entering the Amazon Lightsail welcome screen, click Create instance to create and configure a Lightsail instance. You can also select Chinese in the language option in the lower right corner for convenient settings.

Step Two - Configure Remote Desktop
  • In the pop-up setting interface, from top to bottom, you can choose:

    • The IP location of the virtual desktop;

    • Operating system platform (it is recommended that beginners choose Windows for easier management. If there are no special requirements for the virtual desktop system version, just choose the latest version of Windows);

    • Configuration and paid plans (the current free trial configuration can be experienced for 3 months);

    After selecting, click Create Instance .

An instance status of "Pending" means that a Lightsail instance is being created for you.

Step 3 - Start Remote Desktop

Wait a moment, and if the instance displays " Running ", it means that the configuration has been completed. And there will be a monitor icon in the upper right corner .

After clicking the monitor icon, the virtual desktop window will pop up.

Step 4 - Use Remote Desktop

You can also use the remote clipboard function in the lower right corner to enter characters, then copy and paste them into the remote desktop.

You can use the browser in the virtual desktop to query  the IP  address of the current remote desktop.
