Huawei Cloud Yaoyun Server L instance review | Things you may not know about Huawei Cloud Yaoyun Server L instance

Preface

Recently, Huawei Cloud launched Huawei Cloud Yaoyun Server L instance. It focuses on a lightweight cloud server that is ready to use, easy to operate and maintain, and is the first step to a simple cloud migration. It is intelligent and does not lag, it is affordable and can be used as you like, it is easier to get started, and it is very worry-free to manage.
I bought one as soon as it was launched to play around with, and found that it was really easy to use. But one disadvantage is that once purchased, it does not support changing specifications. For example, the application image you purchased initially is WordPress, and switching to Portainer application image is not supported after purchase. The reason for this is because the application image has been initialized inside the system. If the machine application image you purchased is WordPress, but you want to experience the Portainer application image, sorry, you can only buy another one.
So be sure to figure out what specifications you need before buying. The figure below shows the specifications and configuration of the instance.

Although Huawei Cloud does not allow changing specifications, there are actually ways to switch to other specifications. Two methods are introduced below. Once you find that you have purchased the wrong configuration, you can try to solve it in the following two ways.

The first way to change specifications

For servers purchased on Huawei Cloud, you can unsubscribe. Enter the console of the Yunyao Cloud Server L instance

. On the instance's operation page, click the three dots, and there will be an unsubscribe menu. Regarding unsubscription, there are also some rules that users need to be aware of, and in some cases full refunds will not be given.

Some cloud services (Huawei Cloud Yaoyun Server L instance belongs to them) support unsubscription for five days without reason within 5 days of new purchase. The actual amount paid and used vouchers will be fully refunded, and used discount coupons will not be refunded. Each account can fully unsubscribe 10 instances within a calendar year (January 1st - December 31st) for five days without any reason.

If there is no reason to cancel within five days (partial cancellation), a handling fee and the amount of consumption will be charged, and the used vouchers and discount coupons will not be refunded.
For cloud services that state in the promotion that “five-day no-reason unsubscription is not supported”, you cannot apply for five-day no-reason unsubscription.
If a customer unsubscribes maliciously, Huawei Cloud reserves the right to cancel its five-day unsubscription rights without reason and charge corresponding fees.

For detailed unsubscription rules, please view the Huawei Cloud official website document https://support.huaweicloud.com/usermanual-billing/unsubscription_topic_20000081.html

The second way to change specifications

Once you cancel your subscription after purchasing by mistake, another way is to enter the server and manually change the application image. Note that this method can only change the application image. This is because the application images in the instance are all docker images and are deployed using docker, so we can stop the unwanted images and deploy the images we need.
The specific method is
to use ssh to log in to the remote server
and use docker ps -ato view the running containers,
and then docker stop [容器id]
use docker run ... the command to run the container you need. In this way, we have completed the change to the application image.

Summarize

Compared with other products, Huawei Cloud Yaoyun Server L instances are really very cheap and are very suitable for development experiments, demo demonstrations, and deployment of enterprise static official websites. You can try to use it.
