Warehouse (English:) is also known as resource library , resource library , version library , code library , repository , etc. In a version control system , it refers to the data structure on disk storage, which includes files , directories and metadata . Repositories may be distributed (such as Git ) or centralized (such as Subversion ). Distributed warehouses can be copied to each user's local location; centralized warehouses can only be saved on the server.
The metadata contained in the warehouse generally includes:
- A history of changes to files in the repository.
- A collection of commit objects.
- References to commit objects, called heads.
