Tesla launches plan to build a factory in Mexico, triggering competition for Taiwanese factories | Baineng Cloud Core

Tesla’s plans for a new factory in Mexico have attracted much attention. According to foreign media reports, Mexico’s gigafactory seems to be taking substantial steps. Including Hon Hai Group, Quanta (Foxconn), and Heda are planning to expand their electric vehicle parts production bases in Mexico and the US-Mexico border.

The market is very concerned about the development of Tesla's new factory in Mexico. Foreign technology website Electrek quoted local Mexican media reports in early August that large machinery and equipment appeared near Monterrey, which may mean that the Tesla Gigafactory is about to start construction.

As early as early March this year, it was revealed that Tesla planned to invest approximately US$5 billion to build a super factory in Monterrey, the capital of Nuevo Leon state in northeastern Mexico. External analysts believe that this will be the first time Tesla builds a factory outside the Americas.

At the same time, Taiwanese companies are also actively deploying electric vehicle parts production bases in Mexico and the U.S.-Mexico border. Hon Hai Chairman Liu Yangwei once revealed that Hon Hai has provided electric vehicle spare parts to Mexico and provided support to major customers. FIH, a subsidiary of Hon Hai, said it is seeking business opportunities and plans to transform its operating locations in the United States and Mexico into manufacturing bases for automotive or electronic products.

On the other hand, Hon Hai Company chose New Mexico, located on the U.S.-Mexico border, as the investment location for its automobile transmission system manufacturing plant through its investment in setting up factories in the United States. If the first phase of production goes well, Heda plans to consider expanding the second phase of the production line in New Mexico. Quanta (Foxconn) confirmed its investment plan in Mexico in late May. It has been previously reported that Quanta is one of Tesla's suppliers.

In addition, USI Electronics, a subsidiary of ASE Investment Holdings, is also deploying automotive electronic products in the large industrial center of Guadalajara, Mexico. The newly built second factory is expected to be completed and put into production next year.

On the other hand, Pegatron announced in March this year that it would expand its factory in Mexico and acquired the right to use the factory in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, northern Mexico. Although the product category was not disclosed, It is obvious that relevant arrangements are also being made.
