Some knowledge about network speed

Let’s talk about the unit first

We often talk about Gigabit network cards, 100M bandwidth here Gigabit, 100M does not mean that you can download 1G or 100M files per second. In fact, 1000/8=125 trillion; 100/8=12.5 trillion. The reason is simple: the unit of bandwidth is bit, and the unit of hard disk is byte. 1byte=8bit.

Let’s talk about network cables

Our common network cable is twisted pair. Twisted pair cable uses a pair of mutually insulated metal conductors to twist each other to resist some external electromagnetic wave interference. Twisting two insulated copper wires together at a certain density can reduce the degree of signal interference. The radio waves radiated by each wire during transmission will be offset by the radio waves emitted by the other wire. This is where the name "twisted pair" comes from.

Common network cable (twisted pair)

At present, the most common network cables are Category 5 cables, Category 5e cables, and Category 6 cables.

  • The Category 5 line is identified as "CAT5", has a bandwidth of 100M, and is suitable for networks below 100M;
  • The Category 5e cable is identified as "CAT5E", has a bandwidth of 155M, and is the current mainstream product;
  • The logo of Category 6 line is "CAT6", with a bandwidth of 250M. It is used to set up Gigabit network and is the future development trend.

Internet speed

If it is used under a Gigabit network card, the feedback speed according to the netizen test is as follows: For detailed information on the test, please see: http://zhidao.baidu.com/question/43545466

  • Ordinary Category 5e cables, the quality of the cable is average, both ends use 586B connection method, white-orange, orange, white-green, blue, white-blue, green, white-brown, brown. The line length is about 5 meters, and the maximum transmission speed of 19M/s can be observed.
  • Genuine Category 6 cable, with a cross plastic isolator in the middle of the cable, and 586B connection at both ends. See the color above. The line length is about 5 meters, and the maximum transmission speed of 23M/s can be observed.
  • The Category 6 cable is exactly the same as above. One end adopts 586B connection method, the color is shown above, and the other end adopts the below connection method. White-green, green, white-orange, white-brown, brown, orange, blue, white-blue, that is, the correct method is introduced on the Internet. The line length is about 30 meters, and the maximum speed of 32M/s can be observed.
  • Use ordinary Category 5e cables and use the same connection method as in item 3. The line is about 15 meters long, and the highest speed of 29M can be observed.
