1. What is KGAS?

(German: "Konzern Grundanforderungen Software" [KGAS])
The Basic Requirements Software of the Volkswagen Group is a group-wide cross-section specification defining the minimum requirements of Volkswagen AG for vehicle-related software installed in vehicles. Vehicle-related software includes all software components that have an impact on the vehicle and its functions.

KGAS is part of all supplier contracts for Volkswagen AG that develop control units or vehicle software. Many Volkswagen suppliers have to conduct KGAS audit and certification before the project is designated

2. What does KGAS include?

KGAS is a document that defines and specifies the minimum requirements for the Volkswagen Group in terms of software quality in compliance with ISO/IEC 25010:2011, including:
KGAS includes

  • Software Development Process (Automotive SPICE – VDA QMC (VDA QMC.de))
  • Related Work Product Requirements
  • Necessary claims for software suppliers
  • Requirements for vehicle integration software and vehicle related software
  • Supplier (and internal) requirements for related development processes and work products
  • organizational requirements
  • legality of the activity

3. The difference between KGAIS and KGAS

KGAS also derived KGAIS (Group Basic Requirement IT System), which focuses on IT development.
