Audio - I2S Left Justified Mode (3)

I2S left

I2S Left Justified Standard

  • The MSB of data in standard left-justified format is not delayed by one clock relative to BCLK. The MSB of the left and right channel data in the left-justified format is valid on the first rising edge of BCLK after the edge change of LRCLK
  • LRCLK is 1 to transmit left channel data, LRCLK is 0 to transmit right channel data, which is just the opposite of Philips standard
  • The advantage of the left-aligned format is that it does not need to care about the word length of the left and right channel data because the sampling starts on the first BCLK rising edge after the LRCLK changes.
  • It can be seen from the waveform that the I2S mode is a special case of the left-justified mode, which is derived from the data delay of one BCLK clock cycle in the left-justified mode.
