Method 1: Draw a 3D knurling effect

1. Open the SolidWorks part that needs to be knurled, and we made a ring to demonstrate how to make knurling. At this time, the surface of the part that needs to be knurled should be operated as follows:

2. Make a helical line close to the surface that needs to be knurled. First find the helix command, feature-curve-helix

3. Make a helical line close to the side as shown in the figure below (the diameter of the helical line is the outer diameter of the cylindrical surface, and you can set the pitch according to your own effect). This helix acts as a guide for extruded cuts

4. We create a new datum plane at the starting point of the spiral, perpendicular to the spiral, as shown in the figure below, draw a sketch of an inverted triangle

Method 2: SolidWorks part knurling texture operation

1. Select the outer cylindrical surface, select the drop-down arrow of appearance in the upper left corner of the mouse, and select the surface, as shown in the figure below:


 

2. Enter the advanced option of this surface color, select color/image, and browse to the installation location D:\Program Files\SOLIDWORKS Corp\SOLIDWORKS\data\Images\textures\metal\machined for the appearance file, and select the texture of knurling, as shown in the figure below Shown:

Note: The path here is the path where you install SolidWorks. The computer for the demonstration is installed on the D drive by default, so it is D:\Program Files\SOLIDWORKS Corp\SOLIDWORKS\data\Images\textures\metal\machined, if If you installed the default C drive, go to the C drive to find the corresponding path. If you installed other custom locations, you have to find it yourself. These textures are available by default.
