1. SD card introduction
A Secure Digital (SD) card is a compact flash memory card designed for high-capacity storage and a variety of portable devices such as car navigation systems, cell phones, e-books, PDAs, smartphones, digital cameras, music players , digital video cameras and personal computers.
In 1999, SanDisk Corporation, Matsushita Corporation (formerly Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd.), and Toshiba Corporation agreed to develop and market the Secure Digital Card standard, their evolution of the Multimedia Card (MMC). The two companies formed SD-3C LLC to license and enforce intellectual property rights in SD memory cards and other products. In January 2000, the three formed the non-profit SD Association to develop and promote SD technology.
An SD card is about the size of a postage stamp and weighs about two grams. It's similar in size to an MMC, but smaller than older memory card types
