Let's talk about doing research

Some people are taking the college entrance examination, and some are preparing for postgraduate study and Ph.D. This article of mine is a continuation of my article about the college entrance examination some time ago, and then I will talk about the topic of graduate school and Ph.D.

(1) Curiosity

Curiosity is especially important. With curiosity, he does not need to be whipped or encouraged by others. He will work hard on his own, forget to eat and sleep, immerse himself in his center without distraction, never tire of it, and the more challenges he has, the more excited he is.

Many ordinary people seem to be commonplace, but curious people will always see different brain circuit problems.

(2) smart

Quite a few people are curious, but their desires cannot keep up with their abilities. Their hearts are anxious and their hands are tired.

Many people say that this child is very smart, but what they actually mean is: this child has a good memory, and ordinary people only remember it after reading it seven times. He can only remember a rough idea, and he can remember every number accurately. In fact, to put it bluntly, this kind of smartness that ordinary people say is essentially the same as the storage capacity of computers.

This basic intelligence was needed at the time, but we need another kind of intelligence, that is: comprehension. If a person with this ability is given an unfamiliar field, he can quickly find the whole picture, find the order, find the relationship, and quickly find the center of gravity. It can even penetrate the essence, achieve paradigm abstract modeling, and paradigm migration.

(3) Professional

1. Professional methodology

Professional methodology is more important than professional knowledge. With professional methodology and curiosity, it is very fast to acquire professional knowledge. Many people are miserable when they go to a master's degree. How to collect papers, how to read papers, how to do experiments, and how to write experimental reports is really a mess.

For some people, it is not because of the problem of professional methodology, but because of their own personality. Some people's personalities don't like to break things down, don't like to be serious, and feel that they can do almost anything. Mr. Almost is not allowed to do research.

2. Independent Thinking/Logical Criticism

Those who do research must think independently. Never be convinced or surrender just because of other people's academic authority or position. You must have a skeptical and authentic heart. So think independently and put forward your own thinking.

Only with professional methodology and professional knowledge, as well as an independent thinking heart, can logical criticism be carried out. What can't be broken can't be built. But if there is no professional methodology and professional knowledge, as well as the heart of independent thinking, it is not logic criticism, it is criticism, or even sophistry.

Three, hands-on

Many people think that doing research is all about thinking and thinking. In fact, doing research has always been empirical. Including the Nobel Prize, the laureate award for research, the principle is very clear: to award achievements that have been generally demonstrated. You can see that Einstein's great achievements did not win the Nobel Prize for his theory of relativity, but he had to win for his demonstrated photoelectric effect. So doing research is actually quite similar to being an old farmer. The research process is actually like farming. Most of the time is honestly collecting and processing data, writing experimental codes, doing experiments, and comparing and analyzing experiments. You are not required to write code to be comparable to a software engineer, but you also have to be able to realize and verify your own ideas with code.

(4) Self-discipline

Do research, not engineering. Projects require the cooperation of a large number of people from different departments and positions. Doing research is often like a special team, an elite group operation. Even like a surgeon, a whole team of five is working around a Hero. So self-discipline must be very strong, no project manager will push you, you can only push yourself.

To do a special research project, you have to set your own goals-value-output results, research subjects-scope, plans-milestones, and then strictly follow the plan.

(5) Innovation

Many people want to innovate but their hearts are anxious and their hands are tired. I often say that revolutionary innovation is difficult for us, but: cross-border innovation may be the way to reality. It is good to be the best singer in the cross talk group, and the best singer in the cross talk group.

Therefore, if you want to make something innovative, the key lies in: cross-border-by analogy-integration.

A master can often come up with a sword move when observing the water flow, and can often come up with a sword move when drawing a picture. Many scientists are also very good at playing the violin.

Therefore, those who do research, know the same musical instrument, or know how to trade stocks, or even read palmistry and divination, all have the potential to comprehend by analogy - mastery, hahahaha.

(6) Mentality

Doing research, really: a narrow escape. That is to say: of the ten special projects you research, about nine will go to a dead end, you can't find a breakthrough, you can't get research results, and you are dead. So when doing research, mental toughness is really, really important. Without tenacity, people tend to persist for a few years before becoming depressed. The sense of frustration is too strong, and the loss is too great.

And when doing research, you must be prepared to sit on the bench for ten years. It is unrealistic to always think that you can see the results in the short term. If you think that way, you will only become more and more anxious. Anxiety will lead to irritability and dissatisfaction. If you are not satisfied with yourself and others, you will not be able to live. .
