The resolution we discuss here refers to satellite image resolution.
A pixel is the smallest unit that constitutes a digital image. The resolution of a digital image is a unit used to describe the density of pixels. It is generally expressed in DPI (the number of pixels per inch of an image). The larger the resolution, the smaller the pixels. Take computer screen as an example, compared with 800*600 pixels and 640*480 pixels, the former has smaller pixels, higher resolution and more detailed picture.
For remote sensing images, the resolution usually refers to the ground resolution. The ground resolution of remote sensing images refers to the size of the smallest shadow object on the ground that can be distinguished on the image. It is generally represented by one pixel representing the size of the ground. Usually, 2 Meter resolution means that one pixel represents an area of about 2 meters by 2 meters on the ground, and 0.5 resolution is an area of 0.5 meters by 0.5 meters on the ground.
