01 cement resistance

I. Introduction

This is a cement resistor just removed from an old circuit board. The resistance is 10 ohms and the rated power is 5W. It is said that this type of resistor allows a relatively large excess power. Never tested this. For such a small one-eighth-watt resistor, it will burn when overvoltage.

Here is a 1W resistor with the same 10 ohm metal film. Next, apply a voltage of 60V to them. Of course, this voltage is also the maximum voltage and corresponding maximum current that the DH1766 power supply at hand can output. Let's take a look at the posture of the two of them when they finally died gloriously.

2. Test results

The metal film resistor caught fire instantly under the voltage of 60V. The paint on the exterior is ignited at high temperatures. Then you can see that the whole resistor has become unrecognizable, horrible and terrible. The resistor is also blown. Let's look at it from another perspective. Instantly ignited. When this cement resistor is under 60V voltage, the naked eye can see an orange-red light appearing inside it for a moment, and then it goes out. The flash of this moment cannot be seen in the video. There is little change in the appearance of the resistors. It can be seen that such cement resistors cannot judge whether they are burned out from the appearance.

Conclusion  ※

In this paper, two 10-ohm power resistors are tested under the action of 60V voltage. Although the cement resistor has also been burned, its change cannot be distinguished from the appearance. ·It shows that the use of resistors in this kind of porcelain package is relatively safe.
