I. Introduction

The author chooses to uninstall the Ubuntu dual system because I will not use Ubuntu on this computer again and want to clear up some space and expand the capacity of the c drive by the way. I wrote this blog first to give myself a reference in the future, and second, to teach everyone how to uninstall Ubuntu cleanly without affecting the reinstallation of the Ubuntu system, so that the computer can return to the state of only Win10!

The possible reasons for us to uninstall the Ubuntu dual system are:

  • The kernel of the Ubuntu system is damaged and cannot be entered normally
  • The Ubuntu system does not have enough space to allocate, so it is more complicated to directly expand the area
  • No longer use Ubuntu in the future, clean up and make room

2. System environment and DiskGenius software download

1. System environment

Computer model: Lenovo Xiaoxin air15
System: Win10+Ubuntu20.04
Disk: 2 disks, disk 1 contains the startup items of Windows and Ubuntu, and disk 0 contains other partitions of Ubuntu

3. Set the startup item as the default Windows startup

1. Press F2 to enter the BIOS interface.

2. Enter the [BOOT] option, and adjust the order of Ubuntu and win10 options.

4. Delete the Ubuntu system partition

1. Check the status of the computer disk (3 methods)

The third method is recommended , because the DiskGenius software will also be used later.

How to identify disk partitions?

  1. The EFI boot disk of win10 is generally 260M , so don't touch it!
  2. There is a very small MSR partition with only 16M reserved partition, so don't touch it.
  3. Then there will be win10 disks such as C disk, D disk, E disk, etc., no need to move.
  4. There is also a 1000M recovery partition, don't touch it either.
  5. All that is left are the Ubuntu partitions , which is what we need to delete. There are obvious mount point information under the Ubuntu disk, such as /home, /, swap and so on.

The disk partitions in everyone's computer may be different, so pay attention to distinguishing them!

Method 1: Windows Disk Management interface

Under Windows, click [This Computer] - right click [Management] - [Disk Management]

Method 2: Ubuntu Instructions

Enter the sudo fdisk -l command under Ubuntu to check the computer disk status.

Method 3: DiskGenius software (recommended)

View computer disk status through DiskGenius software.

Remind again: everyone's computer partition may not be exactly the same, and you must pay attention to which partition of the disk in your computer is deleted in the next deletion operation! ! !

2. Delete the Ubuntu partition

Use the DiskGenius software to delete the Ubuntu startup items and other Ubuntu partitions .Be careful not to delete the wrong partition!

(1) Delete the Ubuntu partition

Select the partition you want to delete and right-click to select [Delete Current Partition].

After the deletion is complete, the author's disk 1 partition situation (the Ubuntu startup item is deleted):

(2) Make the partition take effect

Select [Disk], and select [Save Partition Table] to make the partition take effect.
The partition needs to be saved first before the subsequent operation of reclaiming free partitions can continue.
Each disk that has been changed must [save the partition table].

(3) Reclaim free partitions (this step is determined according to individual needs)

If you want to reclaim free partitions, right-click the free disk and select [Allocate free space to] your other disks.
Note: Free disks can only be assigned to the adjacent front/rear disks of the free disk. Guaranteed to be logically adjacent and physically adjacent. For example, the free disk here is the E disk in front, and there is no disk in the back, so it can only be allocated to the E disk.
Before adjusting the partition, it is best to perform [Bad Sector Detection]

right-click the free disk, select [Allocate free space to] your other disks,

close other running software, and select [Yes]

when adjusting the partition, the computer will automatically shut down and enter the following interface for partitioning Adjustment, after the adjustment is completed, it will automatically restart, just wait .

The following is what Disk 1 looks like after the partitions are adjusted:

Disk 0 is also similarly operated. The author allocates the space of the Ubuntu startup item and a part of the space of the D drive to the C drive. If you do not need to expand the c drive, you can ignore this step.
Select the d drive, right-click and select [Resize Partition] to change the part of the partition adjacent to the c drive

in the d drive to a free partition, and the free partition here will be assigned to the c drive. Close the running software, click [Start], the computer will automatically shut down and enter another interface to adjust the partition capacity, after the adjustment is completed, it will automatically restart, just wait . After adjusting the partition capacity of disk d, there is a 50G free partition between disk c and disk d, right-click the free disk, and select [Allocate free space to] disk c. Close the running software, click [Yes], the computer will automatically shut down and enter another interface to adjust partitions. After the adjustment is completed, the computer will automatically restart, just wait . After restarting, you will find that the C drive has been expanded.

5. Delete the Ubuntu boot boot item

After deleting all the partitions of the Ubuntu system, there will still be boot items of the Ubuntu system in the EFI partition of Windows. Before setting the boot item as the default Windows boot, it just hides the boot items of the Ubuntu system, so that the restart will not jump out of the detection The blue information of the disk, but it has not been deleted. If you don't delete it, the Ubuntu system will still exist when you change the boot order after booting.
1. win+r to open the command line, enter [diskpart] to open diskpart
2. Enter [list disk] to display the disk list

3. Select the Windows installation disk, select the disk where the startup item is located, and view the partition information of the disk where the
startup item is located How to distinguish the disk is mentioned above. Generally speaking, the disk where the c drive is located is the disk where the startup item is located. The disk where the author’s startup item is located is disk 1, so check the partition information of disk 1. If the startup item is on disk 0, check the disk. 0 partition information.
Enter at the command line:

list partition

4. Select the partition where the Windows EFI partition is located, and then assign a drive letter to it.
The partition where the boot entry of Win10 is located is generally 260M , and here is partition 1.
Note: The drive letter cannot be the same as the existing drive letter. For example, if your computer already has C, D, and E drives, then assign the letter after E among the 26 letters, and in order to prevent you from plugging in the U disk and drive, it is best It is best to choose the letter with the lower rank of the letter as much as possible, such as the letter J.

5. Open the computer at this time, and there will be the drive letter J just assigned.

6. Due to insufficient permissions, the disk cannot be opened directly, but can be opened indirectly through Notepad.
Search for Notepad in Windows, right-click and run Notepad with administrator privileges .

7. Select [File] in the upper left corner, select [Open]

8. Select the newly added disk J, enter the [EFI] folder, delete the [Ubuntu] folder

9. Return to the command line just now, and then delete the drive letter just assigned J
