Top-down design ideas and Bottom-up design ideas in EDA design

In the design based on EDA technology, there are mainly two design ideas: one is the top-down (Top-Down) design idea, and the other is the bottom-up (Button-up) design idea. In many engineering design aspects, these two methods have more applications, and this article mainly introduces these two design ideas based on EDA technology.

1. Top-down design ideas

2. Bottom-up design ideas

1. Top-down design ideas

In the design based on EDA technology, the top-down design idea is the current mainstream design idea. In most EDA designs, the top-down design idea will be given priority, which is also the design idea of modern EDA. In the Top-Down design, the design is divided into different levels, which are system level, function level, gate level, and switch level. As the design process progresses, the content of the design is gradually refined. As shown in the figure below, there are several levels of deepening in the process of top-down design:

The specific design process of Top-down is: starting from the top layer, divide the whole system into multiple subsystems, each subsystem completes corresponding functions, each subsystem has several corresponding functional modules, and simulates each functional module Design, and then use the corresponding design tools to design the corresponding combinational circuit using the hardware description language, and finally complete the system design of the entire hardware. The corresponding process is as follows:

In the top-down design idea, what needs to be passed is "design-verification-modification-re-verification". Through the process of continuous modification and verification, gradually modify and improve to finally achieve the result you want.

The advantage of the top-down design method is that the success rate is high, and at the same time, it can reduce the development time to a certain extent and improve the development efficiency.

2. Bottom-up design ideas

The bottom-up (Bottom-up) design idea is a more traditional design idea. Its main design idea is to first combine each electronic component into a corresponding circuit, then complicate the circuit, and combine the circuit into a corresponding functional module. , combined step by step, and finally designed into the desired system.

If you use the Bottom-up design method, if you encounter a design error during the design process, it will be more troublesome to modify it at this time, and there may even be a need to redesign, and this design method is time-consuming. long and less efficient. Therefore, in our actual design process, we mainly focus on the Top-down design idea, supplemented by the Bottom-up design idea, and combine these two design methods at the same time to help us develop.
