Digital Twins: Where the Digital and Real Worlds Meet

Digital twin is a brand-new technology, which refers to the establishment of a virtual model in the virtual digital world through digital technology of physical entities, systems or processes in the real world. Digital twins can help people understand and predict the behavior and performance of physical entities, systems or processes in the real world at a lower cost, thereby improving production efficiency, reducing costs, reducing risks, etc.

Nowadays, digital twin technology has been widely used in manufacturing, energy, transportation, medical and other fields.

1. How to judge whether it is a digital twin?

From the perspective of application, some scholars proposed a set of digital twin maturity model, which divides the maturity of digital twin into "imitating reality with virtuality (L0), reflecting reality with virtuality (L1), and controlling reality with virtuality (L2). There are six grades: 1. Preparing reality with virtuality (L3), optimizing reality with virtuality (L4), and co-existing reality with virtuality (L5).

Level 0 (L0): Using virtual simulation
to simulate reality refers to using digital twin models to describe and characterize physical entities. Digital twins with this capability are at the zeroth level (L0) of their maturity levels. Practices that meet this requirement And applications can be classified into the conceptual category of generalized digital twins.

Level 1 (L1): Reflecting
the reality with the virtual, which refers to the real-time reproduction of the physical entity by using the digital twin model.
