An author tested how Midjourney 5.1 handles expressive portraits and their colors. The prompt he used was "a candid portrait of a musician performing on stage, shot in a dynamic and energetic way, inspired by Mick - The work of Locke and Anne-Leibowitz, characterized by a mix of wide-angle shots and close-ups, with an emphasis on personality and expression, using fast zoom lenses."

It can be seen that the background color of the Midjourney 5.1 image perfectly expresses the hint of "dynamism and vitality", while the image of Midjourney 5 is somewhat monotonous. However, the faces appear to be equally good in both images.
But when the cue changed to "A diverse group of people protesting for social justice on a city street, shot in a documentary-style editorial to emphasize the energy and emotion of the moment, inspired by the work of Gordon Parks, featuring the use of A quick sketch shot, blending shots" and the detail of the face between the two versions is immediately apparent.

Midjourney 5 already draws realistic faces, but the key difference from Midjourney5.1 is that the faces in version 5.1 are very expressive and match the attitude of the event, while the faces in version 5 are all expressionless.
Midjourney has also re-enabled AI review for V5 and newer models, and it's now better than before - the AI appeal system is now limited to 25 rejections per day, but successful appeals won't count against your daily limit.
So, how to enable V5.1: In settings click "Midjourney5.1" (on the second line) or type V5.1 after the prompt. The official follow-up plan is to set Midjourney5.1 as the default version this weekend (May 6th or 7th) and replace Midjourney4 version.
