A large number of writing functions exist in Caktus . In order not to make this a two hour review, I will only review the most important ones from the student's perspective.
In short, I will try this tool for writing papers, solving math problems and writing code.
Also, the best way to find out if this tool is right for you is to try it yourself. The tool has a (limited) free trial of 5,000 characters.
1. Essay writer
To write an essay using Caktus, select the essay writer tool and assign it a topic. Then, you need to wait 30-60 seconds for the tool to generate the paper.
I tested this feature by asking Caktus to generate an article about "Why the sky is blue and not white like the sun".
Here is the output:
On the surface, this article looks fine. It even cites original research papers.
But it also has many problems!
First, Chapter 2 is completely irrelevant to the topic of why the sky is blue. It talks about some computer graphics research and visual experience.
Also, in a later section, this article discusses why the sky appears red or orange at sunset. It mentions how the sun is "closer" or "further away", which causes a change in color.
In fact, the sun is neither closer nor farther throughout the day. Conversely, when the sun sets/rises, the light rays need to travel a longer distance in the Earth's atmosphere .
That's the wrong claim made by the AI thesis generator -- but it does it in a convincing way.
Cactus sometimes makes undetectable mistakes. Thorough fact-checking and verification of the information in the article is necessary to ensure accuracy. Unfortunately, this can take longer than simply writing an article from scratch.
The less information there is on the subject, the more likely it is that the AI will make mistakes.
2. Paragraph Builder
Another cool feature of Caktus is the paragraph generator.
Similar to the essay generator, this feature asks you for a short input about the paragraph you want to write. Then, after waiting 15-30 seconds, you'll get a completely unique and original AI-generated output paragraph.
For example, I asked the paragraph generator "what is artificial intelligence" and this is the output I got:
This chapter looks really good. The information is absolutely on point and the writing is concise and clear.
Since Caktus claims to generate original and unique content, let's see if it works for this chapter. I'm going to use an online plagiarism checking tool called DupliChecker :
As you can see, it says 9% of the paragraph contains plagiarism. As you can see, the tool points to the first sentence of the paragraph and points to the resource from which it was copied.
So be careful !
3. Math Solver
A useful feature of Caktus is the math solver mode. This tool allows you to solve equations and math problems easily.
For example, here I'm asking the tool to find the zeros of a quadratic equation:
This answer is 100% correct and takes less than 5 seconds to compute.
But this function uses an existing free tool called Wolfram Alpha to compute the results.
Unlike Caktus, Wolfram Alpha is free to use and you can access it here. So even though you can use Caktus to compute mathematical equations and exercises, you can do the exact same operations in Wolfram Alpha for free.
Note that you cannot use words here to describe the math problem at hand. You need to give it an equation to solve. So this function is more or less like a graphing calculator rather than an AI-based math solver.
4. Code Writer
Last but not least, let's try a coding tool. There are many languages you can choose, but let's use Python since this is the most common language.
I'm asking the tool to write a script that retrieves the HTML of a web page for a URL stored in a text file.
It takes less than 1 second to write this code:
That's impressive! I actually made sure the code worked, and it did! I created a text file of the URLs on my desktop and ran the above script through the terminal to make sure the script was grabbing the HTML, which is exactly what it did! What a cool feature.
Now, with more challenging code snippets, there will be limitations. No AI can write perfect code that works forever. Basic use cases like opening a file or reading data from a URL are simple tasks that AI can already accomplish. But if you ask an AI to write a game or a piece of powerful and robust software, it can't do it.
At this point, I've covered some of Caktus' standout features. I must say that I am very impressed with the code generator as it works very fast and the code is correct.
But other features aren't as impressive. Math Solver is accessible as a separate free tool. Essay/paragraph generators work fine, but they make a lot of mistakes and sometimes plagiarize content.
Other features of Caktus use the same technique. That means the problems exist even though I haven't tried them individually!

However, I want to emphasize the term "AI assistant" - the tool can't always solve your homework by itself. It makes mistakes and even plagiarizes content.
Still, Caktus AI is impressive. Back in 2020, no one would have believed these types of tools were possible for a few years, but here we are!
But beware of artificial intelligence . The problem with artificial intelligence is that it cannot think. It's a mathematical model that predicts outcomes based on what it has learned on the internet. It doesn't know what's right or wrong - it's just a statistical coincidence that the output is correct most of the time.
As you can see in the examples above, it produces plagiarized content as well as incorrect content – both of which are difficult to spot.
