Brave is a free and open source web browser based on Chromium that focuses on privacy protection, and its default settings automatically block online advertisements and website tracking. Brave Software (the company behind the Brave browser) was co-founded in 2015 by Brendan Eich, the creator of JavaScript, and Brian Bondy, the former co-founder of Mozilla.
Brave 1.51 adds several privacy-focused features to the browser and improves existing ones.
- Chief among these changes is the addition of a separate script allow/block feature in the browser Brave Shields (unknown to many Brave browser users, Brave includes the ability to block scripts that websites want to run. By default, this feature is Disabled, can be enabled by clicking on the shield icon and toggle Blocking scripts in the opened interface).
- Another new feature that gives users of the browser more control over Google login requests on third-party sites, Brave users can now allow login requests on a per-site basis rather than globally.
- Brave 1.51's "Quick Read" now shows an estimate of reading time and has wider columns for better readability
- Added media notifications for player controls on Linux
