Samsung Asset Management (Hong Kong) launches Metaverse ETF to focus on investing in future hot spots

According to the official website of Samsung Asset Management (Hong Kong), the company will launch the "Samsung Asia Pacific ex NZ Metaverse Theme ETF" (SAMSUNG Asia Pacific ex NZ Metaverse Theme ETF), code 3172 HK, which is scheduled to be listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on July 7 , the listing price is set at HK$15, with 50 fund units per lot, the price is about HK$750. The ETF's trustee and registrar is HSBC Institutional Trust Services (Asia) Limited and the management fee is 0.85% of NAV per annum.

This is the first Asia-Pacific Metaverse active management ETF in Hong Kong, which helps investors invest in Metaverse-related industries in Asia-Pacific (excluding New Zealand). The proposed investment in Metaverse business companies may include but not limited to the following categories: Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality environment, artificial intelligence, social media, online games, digital transactions, devices and platforms. Taking a top-down approach to stock selection and focusing on the concept of the Asian metaverse, the ETF will consist of 40-60 companies with concepts related to the metaverse. The current stock valuation of Asia Metaverse is at a multi-year low, which is very attractive and actively managed. An experienced research team will select suitable companies for investment.

The listing price of the ETF is 15 Hong Kong dollars, and each lot of 50 fund units is priced at 750 Hong Kong dollars. The ETF is expected to become Asia's first global Asia-Pacific blockchain ETF, and its management fee will be charged at 0.85% per annum.

According to Samsung, the new ETF is “a simple vehicle that can help investors invest in metaverse-related industries in the Asia-Pacific region, excluding New Zealand.” According to the company, categories that will be considered may include, but are not limited to, augmented reality/virtual reality , artificial intelligence, social media, online gaming, digital transactions, devices, platforms and content.

Metaverse is a virtual space in which the new Internet uses 3D technology to simulate or enhance physical reality through technology. Technologies involved in the Metaverse include virtual reality, blockchain, and augmented reality.

According to Gartner's prediction, the metaverse market size may reach US$783.3 billion by 2024, with a compound annual growth rate of 13.1% since 2020.

As the Metaverse business is in a huge and rapid development stage, 3172.HK, as an actively managed investment portfolio, is expected to seize investment opportunities in a timely manner.

Samsung further said it was considering plans to list some of Amplify's other flagship ETFs in South Korea and overseas. The firm said it was studying options to list the Amplify CWP Enhanced Dividend Income ETF in South Korea or Hong Kong.

Samsung unveiled its new flagship phone, the Galaxy S22 Ultra, demonstrating its growing interest in the encryption space. Samsung said that the S22 Ultra is equipped with an encrypted wallet, and users can also store identification documents and keys in digital format.

The new features of the S22 Ultra will be released first in South Korea later this year before being released globally. The new digital identity capabilities also include storing documents such as ID cards, driver's licenses, digital debit and credit cards, and digital keys to homes and cars.
