GSMA: China will become the world's first market with 1 billion 5G connections in 2025! Focus on 5G to cultivate emerging industrial chain supply chain!

On March 28, GSMA held Post-MWC Sixianghui in Beijing. The event invited high-level leaders of China's digital ecosystem and international partners to focus on the main growth trends of the mobile industry, industry challenges, key opportunities for global cooperation, and The innovation and development opportunities faced by multinational enterprises in China were discussed in depth.

During this event, GSMA released the "China Mobile Economic Development 2023" annual report, pointing out that 5G technology will bring an increase of 290 billion US dollars to the Chinese economy in 2030, and all walks of life will benefit from it, and most of the benefits will be realized within the next 5 years. Highlights of the report include:

• China is expected to be the first market to reach 1 billion 5G connections by 2025. By 2030, the number of 5G connections in China will reach 1.6 billion, accounting for nearly one-third of the global total.

• 5G will surpass 4G to become the most mainstream mobile technology in China by 2024.

• In 2022, mobile technology and services will contribute 5.5% of China's GDP—equivalent to US$1.1 trillion in economic value added.

• By the end of 2022, the number of 5G base stations in China will exceed 2.3 million.

5G will add $290 billion to China's economy

By 2030, China will be one of the world's leading 5G markets, with an adoption rate of 88%. The "Report" pointed out that mainland China is the largest 5G market in the world, and the number of 5G connections will exceed 60% of the global total by the end of 2022.

It is expected that by 2025, China will become the first market with 1 billion 5G connections. By 2030, the number of 5G connections in China will reach 1.6 billion, accounting for nearly one-third of the global total.

In 2022, mobile technology and services will contribute 5.5% of China's GDP—equivalent to an economic value-added of US$1.1 trillion.

5G technology will bring an increase of 290 billion US dollars to the Chinese economy in 2030, and all walks of life will benefit from it. It accounts for more than 22% of the total economic impact of the mobile industry. Most of the gains will be realized over the next 5 years.

The mobile industry will contribute $1.3 trillion to the economy by 2030. The main drivers are the continued expansion of the mobile ecosystem and the continued benefits across industries from the increased productivity and efficiency enabled by mobile services.

Building on current deployments and adoption, 5G will underpin future mobile innovations and services.

In 2022, China will build 887,000 5G base stations. By the end of 2022, China will have more than 2.3 million 5G base stations.

Between 2023 and 2030, Chinese operators will invest US$291 billion in their own networks, most of which will be used for 5G. The massive 5G network buildout over the past few years has driven China's capex intensity to record levels, and overall capex will start to decline in the coming years as operators shift their focus to generating returns on investment.

Private and dedicated wireless network solutions are back in vogue as the enhanced capabilities of 5G free up deployments limited to low-key, niche products.

In China, two sectors, manufacturing and mining, appear to have strong demand for private and dedicated 5G networks

For continued growth, solutions need to be lower in price and easier and faster to install and operate. This will drive the demand for pre-integrated solutions. China's digitalization goals are driven by a combination of external and internal factors, not least the slowdown in the real economy. The digital ecosystem, including start-ups, will be at the vanguard of China's digitalization goals, while innovation and investment will lead to new types of innovation targeting key areas of China's 14th Five-Year Plan (2021–2025) and Vision 2035. solution.

In 2030, the manufacturing and service industries will be the biggest beneficiaries of 5G. 5G is expected to benefit most sectors of the Chinese economy, depending on each industry's ability to integrate 5G use cases with their respective businesses.

It is estimated that by 2030, driven by various applications such as smart factories, smart cities and smart grids, 57% of the results will come from the manufacturing industry, and 23% will come from the service industry.

Ministry of Industry and Information Technology: Cultivate emerging industrial chain supply chain

Promote the deep integration of the innovation chain, industry chain, capital chain, and talent chain, and build a number of new common technological innovation platforms; The main position of enterprise innovation, cultivate the emerging industrial chain supply chain.

Strengthen the main position of enterprise innovation

In recent years, the development of my country's industrial chain and supply chain has generally improved. According to data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the characteristics of my country's complete industrial system have been continuously strengthened. At present, my country has 41 major industrial categories, 207 medium industrial categories, and 666 small industrial categories. It is the only country in the world that has all industrial categories in the United Nations industrial classification. Among the 500 major industrial products, the output of more than 40% of the products in my country ranks first in the world. In particular, high-speed rail, 5G technology and equipment, and new energy vehicles have successively grown into key industry chains leading the world.

Enterprises are the main body in building the industrial chain supply chain. Only when enterprises are strong and sustainable can the industrial chain supply chain be stable and resilient. We must promote the integrated development of large and small enterprises in the industrial chain. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will give full play to the role of the main force of large enterprises and the new force of small and medium-sized enterprises, support the main chain enterprises to play a leading role in the industrial ecology, drive small and medium-sized enterprises to improve their supporting capabilities in the subdivision of the industrial chain, and stimulate the emergence of more "specialized, special and new" enterprises .

"Technology companies must have a sense of corporate responsibility as a 'chain owner', focus on strengthening the chain and supplementing the chain, overcome key core technologies, and use technological empowerment to drive the high-quality rise of the domestic industrial chain." Lei Jun, founder, chairman and CEO of Xiaomi Group, previously accepted China Securities Journal reporter said in an interview.

With the deep integration of the new generation of information technology and manufacturing industry, my country's intelligent manufacturing is continuously developing in depth. At present, my country has built more than 2,100 high-level digital workshops and smart factories, and the industrial Internet has fully integrated into 45 major categories of national economy. The green development of the manufacturing industry is the meaning of the title of realizing the "double carbon" goal. Jin Zhuanglong previously stated that the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will study and formulate guidelines for accelerating the green development of the manufacturing industry, and promote green upgrading and transformation of steel, building materials, light industry, textiles and other industries.

According to data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, China's total industrial added value and total import and export value of goods trade will both exceed 40 trillion yuan in 2022, the added value of manufacturing industry will account for nearly 30% of the world, and the international market share of goods trade exports will be close to 15%. In 2022, the utilization of foreign capital in China's manufacturing industry will increase by 46.1% year-on-year. Among them, the actual use of foreign capital in high-tech manufacturing increased by 49.6% year-on-year.

Focusing on the construction of an open and cooperative industrial chain and supply chain, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will fully implement the high-level opening-up policy of the manufacturing industry, create a market-oriented, legalized, and internationalized business environment, focus on ensuring foreign investment services, and deepen cooperation in the industrial and supply chains. Share China's development opportunities.
