Random Strolling in Strange Cities - Travel Notes and Strategies of Zhuhai and Macau

Prepare

Considering that I only have 2 free days on weekends, I decided to focus on one place - Macau . Macau is not big, and you can visit most of the attractions in 2-3 days. The words in Hong Kong are much bigger, and we will talk about it later when there is a holiday.

In fact, I was still hesitating whether to go or not before I set off. After all, I had a lot of work to do, and my good friend wanted to do things with me. I was still debating whether to go until Friday, and I didn’t book air tickets or hotels in advance.

I didn’t buy a ticket to fly to Zhuhai on Saturday morning until I got off work on Friday night. I worked on the strategy until midnight, and got up at 4 am to catch the plane.

Zhuhai

After the plane landed in Zhuhai, I started to book hotels in Macau. I was shocked. The hotel I saw before was more than 300 a night, but now it directly increased to 1k a night on Saturday. After thinking about it, I thought it was unreasonable: the price has increased But the service has not changed , so the plan is temporarily changed:

  1. Playing in Zhuhai on Saturday afternoon, staying overnight in Zhuhai at night, hotels in Zhuhai are not expensive

  2. Get up early on Sunday and enter Macau from Gongbei Port, and start to play on the Macau Peninsula

  3. Take 1 day off on Monday to visit Taipa, Macau (the fourth sound of Tai dang)

  4. fly to shanghai on monday night

Because the time in Zhuhai is only half a day, I found a place with concentrated attractions: Love Post Office + Lighthouse + Lovers Road + Wild Beaver Island + Riyuebei.

The Love Post Office is built by the sea. It is not a pure post office, but a commercial complex. The first floor is a rest area, and the second floor has a small shop selling postcards, cakes and dolls. There is a small mailbox here, so it is named 爱情邮局.

What attracts me more is the lighthouse next to it. A long and thin path is built in the waterfront square to extend into the sea, and a lighthouse is built at the end of the road. The lighthouse is mainly white and gray, standing there, guiding the passing ships, solemn and beautiful .

From the Love Post Office to the north to Qi'ao Island, the road built along the coastline is the Lover's Road. I swept a bicycle and rode northward along the Lover's Road. The gentle sea breeze blows very comfortably. Several small islands loomed.

Wild Beaver Island is not big, but the scenery is beautiful , and the Sun Moon Bay Theater is also here. There is a small mountain in the center of the island, and 4 climbing routes have been artificially built, and I climbed up one of them. On the way, I crossed the artificially built steps, walked around the paths on both sides, and saw the original mountain forest scene, which is very beautiful!

On the top of the mountain, there are pavilions for tourists to rest and a flat land. I lean on the railing on the flat ground, where I can overlook the people on the island, and also overlook the sea view in the distance, as well as the whistling sea breeze, which is very refreshing. I have stayed here on the terrace for a long time, enjoying the sea breeze, and I haven't felt this comfortable and fresh feeling for a long time.

In the evening, I reluctantly left Wild Beaver Island. For dinner, I ordered oyster roast, pig offal soup and assorted rice rolls at Shen Kee Restaurant . Oyster roll is a local specialty. I am not used to it. OK.

After dinner, I decided to go to the hotel on foot, and learn about the local life in Zhuhai by the way. Walking on the road in a strange city, what I see and hear is very fresh, and no one around me knows me. I feel that I have removed some kind of disguise from my mentality, and it is rare to be a free and unrestrained self .

Macau Peninsula

I entered Macau from the Gongbei Port at around 8:00 on Saturday, and walked 100 meters from the exit port to the residential area. There are many pharmacies, communication shops selling Macau phone cards, sporadic currency exchange, supermarkets, etc. along the street.

I bought the Macau Pass bus card and immediately took the bus to Ruins of St. Paul’s. It belongs to the world cultural heritage and is the ruins of the front wall of St. Paul’s Cathedral. Sanba is the Cantonese homonym of St. Paul’s, and the big character is added in front to distinguish it from the other one. Small Sanba Church.

I stood on the garden in front of the Ruins of St. Paul's for a while, and the bustling crowds rushed past me: old people, children, handsome men, and beauties. It felt like a movie scene, very dreamy. Maybe it's because I haven't been in contact with so many people for a long time , and I have a sense of shock: what are the stories of these people? why are they here What kind of past do they have? I have an urge to get to know them. Of course I can't understand them, but I can tell from their expressions that they are happy.

There are also Macau Museum, Mount Fortress, Love Lane, Church of Our Lady of the Rosary, Civic and Municipal Administration Building, etc. near the Ruins of St. Paul's, all of which can be reached within a 10-minute walk.

Later I went to the Macau Tower. From the tower, you can overlook the panoramic view of Macau. The 53rd floor is the sightseeing floor, and the 61st floor is the outdoor sightseeing floor, where you can feel the cool sea breeze. There is also bungee jumping on the 61st floor. I personally think that bungee jumping tickets are more worth buying than sightseeing tickets. While experiencing bungee jumping, you can also go sightseeing outdoors.

Macau Taipa

Taipa is a very luxurious place in Macau . Five-star hotels such as The Parisian Macau, The Londoner Macau, and The Venetian Macau are all here. The area where these hotels are located also has a name: Sands Resort. It is estimated that these hotels are owned by the same owner. These hotels have relatively good service and provide free buses to pick up tourists from various famous attractions in Macau to the hotel for free. The locals call these free buses 发财车. These hotels are all commercial complexes. There are restaurants, clothing, health products, luxury goods and other stores on the first and second floors. The upper floors are hotels, and the underground is a casino.

The gaming industry is one of the pillar industries in Macau. It is not directly called a casino here, but a casino . The entrance and exit are separated, and security checks are required to prevent cheating equipment. The casino is really big, it is estimated to be as big as 3 football fields, 2/3 of the area is 小赌怡情区, and the chip requirements are relatively low. Another 1/3 is a high-stakes gambling area , which is separated by a special baffle, and every gaming table inside is full of people. I regret that I didn't observe these gamblers carefully, because losing money and winning money here are real, and I can see people's more real side.

On the third day, I went to Fisherman's Wharf. This place is worth visiting because there is an ancient Roman-style Colosseum here .

What is the life of the native people like?

The Macau Peninsula is a historic district, and most of the buildings are very old. Residents 信仰土地神, many shops are enshrined at the entrance.

There is a group of people singing and dancing by the Nanwan Lake. It can be seen from their expressions that they are very happy! This is one of the few places I have come into contact with locals in Macau.

In terms of commodity prices, vegetables, pork, and school canteens in Macau are higher than those in Shanghai.

  1. Macau is roughly composed of three parts: 澳门半岛, 氹仔and 路环, each part can basically be visited in one day, so if you have enough time, a reasonable arrangement for 3 days and 2 nights. If the time is too late, you need to make a proper trade-off, and only visit 1-2 of the three places.

  2. It is best to plan your itinerary in advance and book your flight + hotel in advance. It will be more expensive to book a hotel + air ticket near the departure.

  3. Many museums in Macau and the Macau Science and Technology Museum are closed on Monday , so pay attention to adjusting the itinerary.

  4. The buses and most stores in Macau support Macau Pass (similar to a transportation card). After entering the customs, it is sold in 711 convenience stores and Lailai Supermarket. Lailai Supermarket only accepts cash, 130 MOP.

Summarize

If there is something you want to do, you must find a way to do it immediately, and you may not be able to do it with a little hesitation.

Many things are not that important, don't be bound by these things. I have been struggling with whether to go to Macau, because I am worried that I will not be able to complete my work and my friends will not be able to handle things. In fact these things are not affected by travel.

Reading and traveling are inseparable. I have read books for so many years, so it’s time to go out and have a look. Where should I go next ?
