How to grasp project progress in agile development

Many people who have just turned to management positions often do not know how to control the progress of the project.
Regarding the progress, it is easier to think of inquiries and requests to write daily and weekly reports.
These measures are first and foremost incomplete. Because progress management is not only to obtain progress information,
but also to verify progress information. It's like saying this task, you ask someone to download a software installer.
You want the Linux version. After he downloads the Windows version, maybe he will tell you that the task is complete.
Secondly, these measures are too inefficient. Imagine a team of 30 people. If you ask about the progress of everyone, what will be the result?
Besides, others may find you annoying.
On the other hand, when it is found that the progress is lagging behind, such as being behind schedule, or a task can take less time,
some corrective measures should be taken. That is to say, certain control measures are required.
For example, a tester is about to test a Linux cron task script.
I asked him to report the progress and he said he was still waiting. So what is he waiting for?
Because he set his timed task to prepare the test to run every 2 hours.
I asked him if setting that cron task to run every 5 minutes would have the same effect from a testing perspective (this script usually takes only a few seconds to execute).
In fact, I expected him to do this in advance, so I specifically asked him to report the progress in time.

In addition, schedule management should be taken into account when arranging the project plan. In the process of project execution, it is also necessary to always pay attention to schedule risks.

There is an article on IBM developerWorks on how to control the progress, which is written based on the author's actual project management experience. If you are interested, you can refer to:
