SQL SERVER operation and maintenance inspection series five - instance-level parameters

foreword

Doing a good job in daily inspection is an important step in database management and maintenance, and it is necessary to register the date and results of each inspection, and may need to issue an inspection report.

This series aims to address some common pitfalls:

  • I don't know what to check
  • I don't know how to check easily
  • Too many machines, check up trouble
  • Difficulty in generating reports and inability to visualize results

Routine backup is the basic work of operation and maintenance personnel. Ensuring that the backup strategy is complete and backup availability is also the top priority of operation and maintenance personnel.

 Overview check

The backup check is a major item in the SQL Expert Cloud check, and the importance of backup can also be seen. In the [Check Items] - [Backup] page, the backup strategy will be checked, and a warning will be given when the strategy is unreasonable. .

details

On the [Database] - [Backup] page, you can view the detailed information of the backup, including the time information of the backup, the path, the size of the backup file, and the LSN number.

Note: At present, only the backup status of the database itself is checked, and the backup information of some third-party software may be missing.

Note: Please refer to the backup related articles on the platform for the precautions and optimal configuration of backup.

Summarize

Backup is the top priority of database maintenance. When data is lost due to server failure or misoperation, the original data can be restored through backup. The more complete the database backup is, the more data can be restored after a failure.

suggestion:
  • 1. If the data loss tolerance is small, it is recommended to use the full recovery model, with daily full backups and hourly (custom) log backups.
  • 2. The backup adopts the compressed backup method to reduce the consumption of disk space.
  • 3. Do not place backup files and data files on the same physical disk. If a disk failure occurs, data and backups may be damaged or lost at the same time.
  • 4. In order to meet the needs of disaster recovery, it is recommended to add an off-site backup strategy.
