Basic Concepts of Performance Testing

1. Performance indicators:

Business indicators: click rate, response time, transaction throughput, number of online users, number of concurrent users, maximum number of concurrent users;

Resource metrics: memory, CPU, disk IO, network

hardware equipment

Industry Standard: Available  at http://www.tpc.org/

2. Common tools: unix standard tools: sar, iostat, vmstat, time, ps, bdf, top, ipcs, uptime, etc.

cpu (sar, time, top, ps) memory (vmstat, ipcs), file system (dbf, iostat, sar, swapinfo, nfsstat) IO subsystem

Status (iostat) Network (netstat)

Network (ping, winipcfg, tracert, netstat)

3. Test type:

Commonly used are performance, load, capacity, pressure, strength, concurrency, stability, fatigue, large data volume, stability; others include peak and valley,

Types of exceptions, speeds, servers, network performance, firewalls, etc.

4. Steps:

Goals & Requirements; Planning; Analysis; Scenarios & Scenarios; Resource Preparation; Scripts & Data Preparation; Testing; Results Analysis; Tuning & Retesting.

5. Notes:

C&S in the same local area network; scripts should have checkpoints; the impact of parameterization and association on resource consumption on results; consideration and filtering of ThikTime; log off; data scale and distribution;
