On April 26, the WeChat mini-game team announced the transcript: more than 300 mini-games have been released, several mini-games have achieved a total user scale of over 100 million, and the monthly revenue of several mini-games on Android has exceeded 10 million. Recently, WeChat officially released mini-game original protection measures to continue to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of mini-game developers.

The four major measures are as follows:

In terms of name protection, through the establishment of a name protection library, the IP names of well-known games are protected in advance to avoid malicious squatting and confusion; a name appeal mechanism is provided, and developers can complain about online infringing names.

In infringement processing, provide an entry for infringement complaints. Users can click "…" in the upper right corner of the mini-game to view the infringement complaint guidelines, and can directly provide evidence of infringement to [email protected] for complaint.

Technically, malicious infringements are discovered and dealt with through technical comparison and other methods.

In the long-term operation, if the same subject or the same game has multiple infringements, it will be judged as a malicious violation of the platform's operating norms, and the subject and its mini-games will be dealt with more severely and included in the blacklist.

Recently, WeChat has discovered some infringements and has dealt with it as follows:

(1) Through the name protection mechanism, the name infringement has been dealt with more than 100 times in the registration process.

(2) Received a complaint and found that the "Strongest Shooting" mini-game violated the rights and interests of a game APP, and has been removed from the shelves.

(3) Through technical comparison, it was found that three mini-games including Pinball Master, Cube War Snake, and the latest Happy Hexagon were suspected of malicious infringement and have been removed from the shelves.

In addition, the determination of game infringement has always been a difficult problem in the industry. WeChat is currently judging and handling the game name, game logo, game description, and game material infringement. For disputes involving similar gameplay or creative reference, WeChat will give all parties the opportunity to state and prove.

If the two parties cannot reach an agreement, the parties to the dispute will be guided to resolve the matter through judicial means to safeguard their legitimate rights and interests, and the platform will deal with it according to the judgment results of the competent authorities.

Domestic game developers who need protection

When it comes to domestic games, many people think of imitation and plagiarism. In fact, the current domestic game developers really need protection.

In December last year, GameLook reported that an independent game called "Mist Detective" in China was stolen by those with ulterior motives, and then went to the overseas crowdfunding website Kickstarter to defraud the news. Today, almost half a year later, another domestic independent game has suffered. But what's even more extreme is that the deception of the criminals has been upgraded, directly ahead of the developer's deity, and uploaded the game on Steam in advance.

The protagonist of this incident is a game called Snake Force (Snake Armed). Its developer, Jeff Chen, sued the media today that a company called Semen Rodin stole its open source code and put Snake Force on Steam ahead of schedule. 's store page, and is expected to be officially released on May 6. At the same time, Semen Rodin also did a great job of playing the game. Not only did he add music to Snake Force, but he also made an iOS version using the source code files, and "intimately" helped the original author to share the work of adapting the mobile game.

It is understood that Snake Force is an entry in the 40th issue of Ludum Dare, an independent game development competition, and the competition is grouped into a stricter Compo group. Ludum Dare is similar to the Global Game Jam competition, in that both contestants are required to complete a prototype of a playable version of a game according to a specific theme within a certain period of time. Many excellent works have been born from Ludum Dare, such as the domestic independent game "Candleman", which has been customized by Chinese games and the only generation of Tencent Aurora Project.

The Ludum Dare competition is divided into two groups, Jam, which is limited to 72 hours, and Compo, which is limited to 48 hours. In addition to allowing only single players to participate, Compo must be completed within 48 hours, and art resources and sound resources need to be made now. Compo also requires participants to disclose the game source code and resource files used.

It is a pity that it is precisely this kind of rules that is originally intended to share and learn, which has attracted some people with motives and used their brains.

Snake Force developer Jeff Chen also revealed that the misappropriation of works by actual independent game developers is actually nothing new. Previously, another product "Gravity Wave" that participated in the Global Game Jam was also stolen by unscrupulous manufacturers and uploaded to Steam. It was discovered by a foreign player and sent an email to inform that, fortunately, this behavior was prevented.

Indie game works that have been impersonated and stolen like Snake Force are not the first and will not be the last. The loose review policies of various crowdfunding and distribution platforms also provide favorable conditions for deception. It is not a long-term solution for developers themselves and enthusiastic players to report. Only by improving the review system can we prevent similar situations from happening to the greatest extent.

Of course, the gratifying thing is that domestic games are indeed slowly rising. While the platform uses various methods to protect developers, players must also pay attention to avoiding "Li Gui".
