NetEase Cloud Yidun Zhu Haoqi: The audio-visual industry has entered the era of strong supervision and intelligence

This article is published by  NetEase Cloud .

In 2018, the entertainment audio-visual industry first felt a cold wave of supervision, and a large number of well-known pan-entertainment products were subject to regulatory interviews. Content security has become a top issue that the industry has to pay attention to. The construction of audiovisual systems cannot bypass content security, and practitioners in the audiovisual industry also need to pay more and more attention to content security. LiveVideoStack interviewed Zhu Haoqi, CTO of NetEase Cloud Yidun, a leading domestic content security manufacturer, to share the technical status and future challenges of content security.

LiveVideoStack: Please briefly introduce yourself and the work you are responsible for? Compared with other manufacturers in the industry, what is the special story?

Zhu Haoqi: NetEase Cloud Security (Yidun) is a one-stop security service under NetEase Cloud, born out of the NetEase Security Department. In the past 20 years, we have mainly provided security risk control support for all NetEase products, covering content security, mobile security, network security and business security.

The difference between NetEase Cloud Security and other security vendors is that we have always been a business scenario-driven security guarantee. For example, the content security team was attacked by organized and large-scale harmful spam content on UGC products such as NetEase Blog at that time. Under the decision, it was established quickly. We should be the first large company in China to set up such a team. At Yidun, I am mainly responsible for the technology research and development of cloud security services, especially content security related to intelligent identification and business security services based on big data.

LiveVideoStack: It is said that from NetEase News to NetEase Cloud Music's threading culture, you are behind the support. Can you share some of your impressive things? Or something interesting?

Zhu Haoqi: The information technology revolution has made the social division of labor more and more closely coordinated, not to mention within a company, so as the basic security support department of NetEase products, we only do what we should do. However, when helping products build a content security system, there are indeed many details that need to be discussed and understood with each other. For example, news follow-up, NetEase has the characteristics of building buildings, but there is a possibility that some floors have problems, others are no problem, then we need to discuss with the product, so that the product can add the function of demolishing buildings, which can be used as a problem. Floors are torn down (deleted). In fact, this is a relatively big change to the entire follow-up system, and the company has indeed invested a lot of resources to upgrade the structure.

In addition, Cloud Music has borrowed the problem of follow-up at the beginning of its design, and multi-story buildings (up to two floors) are not allowed in the design. But in our cooperation with Cloud Music, we have gone a step further. In addition to cleaning up harmful content, we also try to do some "operational needs" functions: for example, to identify and clean up meaningless watering, abuse that damages the community atmosphere, etc. The results are not bad. In fact, netizens will adjust their behavior according to the community's atmosphere on the Internet.

LiveVideoStack: The goal of the LiveVideoStack community is to gather the first technical community dedicated to the multimedia audio-visual industry in China. Since its establishment, we have indeed verified the huge demand from the industry and engineers in this industry. What special insights does NetEase Cloud Yidun have in the audio-visual field?

Zhu Haoqi: We are very optimistic about the development of the audio-visual industry and the future of the multimedia audio-visual technology community represented by LiveVideoStack. NetEase has always had exploratory products in entertainment multimedia, but Yidun felt the explosion of the audio-visual industry from a special side. In essence, our content security service is content recognition. We currently recognize about one billion pieces of information a day. Since its establishment, we have found that the proportion of pictures, videos and audios has exploded.

Our communication with our service customers has also verified that the content industry has been developing towards richer media and social interaction, constantly expanding new experiences for users. In the past two years, three trends have emerged in the industry: the first is vertical penetration, and audio-visual interaction is being embedded in tourism, finance, e-commerce and other industries as a standard function. In addition, the cross-integration of different media forms is accelerating, the media is constantly adding new audio-visual content, and music applications are launched with short videos, etc., and pan-media pan-entertainment has become a consensus. Finally, more media forms, more interaction and massive content also bring greater and more complex content security supervision pressure to audiovisual platforms, and content security must become intelligent.

LiveVideoStack: Many of our members are audio-visual platforms, and they are indeed very concerned about how to build an efficient content security system? Do you have any suggestions?

Zhu Haoqi: In terms of technology, we should adopt intelligent recognition technology based on natural language processing and deep learning technology as soon as possible to transform the traditional content recognition technology represented by keywords and feature libraries to ensure the coverage of text, pictures, voice, especially live video. In terms of products, attention should be paid to the coverage of content publishing, especially the UGC interactive interface. Except for comments, blogs, photo albums, bullet screens, etc., nicknames, avatars and other signatures cannot be omitted. In terms of strategy, we should establish a detailed and clear review system and response process for harmful information, and do a good job in emergency response.

LiveVideoStack: From text, images, video and audio, the difficulty of understanding information is also increasing. Can you share some technical explorations that you and your team are doing? Such as NLP, voiceprint recognition.

Zhu Haoqi: The difficulty of understanding information is indeed increasing, but in recent years, effective technical means are constantly being updated. On the one hand, we try to use a combination of multiple technologies to understand the increasingly complex multimedia content. For example, in the process of image analysis, we will use a combination of multiple deep networks to extract image semantic information, and use NLP technology to capture the image captured by OCR. On the other hand, due to the continuous increase of Internet video content, on the basis of static image processing, we use video analysis technology to better Interpret streaming media content. In addition, voiceprint recognition technology is also an important research topic in the security field, and we are also trying to use end-to-end voiceprint technology to assist identity authentication.

LiveVideoStack: What has been the joy of working in the security industry for so many years?

Zhu Haoqi: Security is a serious and rigorous industry. A small problem may lead to a serious crisis in the enterprise. In fact, we should not talk about fun (compare games, social networking, e-commerce, etc.). Because it's very likely that your fun is based on someone else's pain (like it would be interesting to study safety issues, understand the details of what happened, think about remedial measures, explore new risk points, etc., but that's often when the product is occurs after reporting a security issue). Of course, the sense of achievement brought by helping customers solve security problems is very strong, and the battle of wits and courage with black products is also a joy in hardship. We are solving some "anti-humanity" problems. It is difficult to do, but it will be very happy to do it.

LiveVideoStack: Can you briefly review and look forward to the history and future of security systems?

Zhu Haoqi: The history of information security before the invention of the computer was mainly in the field of cryptography, such as encrypted telegrams. With the development of computer technology, the field of information security continues to expand, and now includes network security, system security, mobile security, business security, content security and other services. At the same time, threats to information security are constantly escalating, security incidents occur frequently, and the challenges to security work are getting bigger and bigger. I think there will be the same trend in the future: the security scope and security threats will increase at the same time.

LiveVideoStack: The security department tends to be underrepresented in the enterprise, and for many executives, security is a cost center rather than a profit center. But safety is no trivial matter, and a small mistake may bring huge losses to the company and customers. What do you think about the special industry of security? Have some memorable stories to share.

Zhu Haoqi: The threshold for the security industry is relatively high, and it is indeed suspected of being thankless, so the circle is not as broad as other information technology industries. However, with the occurrence of security incidents, more and more business leaders and government officials have begun to realize the importance of information security, and relevant laws and regulations have been continuously improved. I think the status of the security industry is bound to rise slowly over time. And after scale-up, the security industry can also explore commercialization, which can not only help companies solve security problems, but also become a source of profit.

LiveVideoStack: In NetEase, is security a profit center? Is the internal technology open to the outside, right? Why is there such a move?

Zhu Haoqi: To be precise, NetEase's internal security work is divided into two parts, one is the basic technology research work serving the group, and the other is the Yidun team that commercializes security products. The commercialization department is the profit center. It does It is to provide some of the internal technologies accumulated by NetEase over the past 20 years to enterprises in need to form commercialized services. I think it is a logical thing to have such a move. On the one hand, the technology needs to be implemented in more scenarios to prove and maintain its advanced nature. On the other hand, after commercializing high-threshold security services, it can meet the needs of the security market faster and help enterprises in need quickly realize the construction of security systems. , reduce security risks, improve the efficiency of enterprises and reduce their costs.

LiveVideoStack: Now all industries are talking about AI. What is the current status of AI applications in the security field? What are the promising directions for exploration in the industry?

Zhu Haoqi: In fact, AI technology has been around for a long time, but in recent years, with the help of new algorithms and new high-performance hardware, the results have been significantly improved, and even more accurate and efficient results than humans can be achieved within a certain range. Currently, we apply AI technology in the fields of content security and business security, and use better models to identify content and identify risky behaviors. As for the directions of AI exploration, there are too many, such as speech recognition, translation, robotics, face recognition, automatic driving, etc., it can be said that the hot directions with a lot of capital investment are all promising.

LiveVideoStack: In order to better distinguish normal users from threatening users, it is necessary to analyze users' profiles. At the same time, how to protect users' privacy, what work have you and your team done?

Zhu Haoqi: In fact, user portraits only need data of various dimensions of the user, but no plaintext data. For the model, as long as the data can be consistent. Therefore, on the one hand, we have established a data confidentiality system within the department, and divided permissions according to the level of data importance. On the other hand, we have tried our best to desensitize real data, such as mobile phone numbers, which can be directly hashed into another value. , it cannot be reversed, and people cannot understand it, so that even if the data is leaked, it will not cause privacy leakage.

LiveVideoStack: Not long ago, at MWC Spain, 5G became a hot spot. It is foreseeable that 4K and even 8K video will be popularized in the near future. Will this bring new challenges to security services?

Zhu Haoqi: The theoretical speed improvement of 5G will definitely bring benefits for larger and clearer content dissemination, but this is not bad for content security, and there will not be too much pressure. However, the large increase in the number of access devices due to the popularization of 5G may further reduce the attack threshold for hackers, resulting in a substantial increase in security costs.

Entertainment multimedia development and application practice

With the popularization and explosion of massive multimedia applications, higher requirements have also been put forward in terms of user experience, cost control, and content security. If you want to understand the development trend and technical difficulties of the pan-entertainment industry, on May 19th, Shanghai, welcome to the topic "Entertainment Multimedia Development and Application Practice", with Netease Yunyidun CTO Zhu Haoqi, Migu Video Technology Director Wang Qi, PP Cloud Senior Architect Zhu Mingliang and Zhanqi Live Streaming Media R&D Engineer Shi Shuo face to face. They will discuss the content security challenges under massive and high bandwidth, the foundation and challenges brought by 5G, the challenges of high-definition event live broadcast, and cost control and Share the latest technology practices and application cases of multimedia development from the perspective of user experience assurance.

If you are a small and medium-sized start-up company, you feel that the investment cost is too high in content security, you have no operational experience, you are also worried that the relevant policies are not well understood, and you are even more worried that the investment will not be effective, then you can try to use the anti-spam business of Yidun , you can click here to access the Yidun content security solution with one click.
