Google 'data security' requires developers to disclose data information collected by their apps

To allow users to make informed decisions, Google is adding a new data security section to its Play Store, where developers need to show what data their apps collect, Who the data is shared with and the purpose for which it was collected.

As users pay more attention to personal privacy, data transparency has gradually become a voice. At WWDC 2020, Apple added Privacy Nutrition Labels to the App Store to let users know what information apps are collecting and with whom it is being shared. And to follow suit, Google has also launched a similar program called "Data Security".

In the announcement, Google noted that these detailed data information should be uploaded by the respective app developers and updated when there are changes. Any submission of incorrect information may result in the app being removed from the Play Store.

Google requires all developers to complete these privacy details by July 20, 2022, or their apps will be removed from the Play Store.
