Gimp Quick Start (5)
add text
Adding text to images is relatively simple, and there are dedicated text tools on the toolbar.
After selecting the text tool, you can set the font and other parameters.
Then you can add text to the image. Each time you add text a new text layer is created. You can view the layers in the image in the sidebar on the right. We will introduce the layers in detail later, as long as you know that gimp can generate multiple layers, each layer is equivalent to an independent image.
Here I used the text tool to add two texts. So there are two layers. Select the first layer above, and then click merge down in the right-click menu to merge the two layers into one layer. However, after merging, the two texts cannot be edited and processed separately. So it is better not to merge.
Use the move tool to move the position of the text.
After clicking the move tool, place the mouse over the text, and the mouse turns into an icon similar to the move tool to move the image. But this tool is pretty useless. It took me a long time to find the location, and finally I found the icon for the programming mobile tool that looks like a mouse.
Filters->Light and Shadow->Drop Shadow can add a shadow to the text. Everyone can try. This operation also generates a new layer. The layer name is called Drop Shadow.
Below is the effect after adding a shadow.
Image with transparent background
Both PNG and GIF formats support transparency. We can create a new transparent image with gimp. When creating a new image, make sure that the background is selected as transparent in the advanced options.
The background of the generated image is a square, which means transparency. Then we can add objects like text to the image. After adding the text, you can also use Image -> Autocrop Image to automatically crop the image to the same size as the text. Then save it as png and other image formats that support transparency. This gives a transparent image.
