More Detailed Maps, Navigation, and Assistant Features - Android App Updates at Google I/O 2018

With just a week left until I/O 2018, Google has updated the Official Android Guides app , bringing more detailed maps and better navigation tools to conference attendees. Meanwhile, earlier this week, Google also launched a new Google Assistant feature.

In preparation for the 2018 Developer Conference, the Android app was updated last week and showcased some of the latest Material Design advancements, like BottomAppBar, white themes, and circular interface elements.

Version 6.1 on the night of May 2 updated the Maps tab with a more detailed layout of the Shoreline Amphitheatre. The new map debuted on the iOS client teasing the upcoming Android Auto announcement , showing real 3D images of tents, sandboxes and other booths.

Previous versions only provided a general outline and generic labels. In the updated app, the map features features from every angle, with detailed descriptions that attendees want.

When viewing the meeting list, the bottom bar has been updated with a new location icon that can be clicked to pinpoint the location on the map for easier navigation. This icon is immediately to the right of the share icon located on the left.

Finally, the "Info" tab adds a "Related Apps" section linking to the I/O 18 Google Assistant feature that went live this week . Clicking directly opens the assistant's list page. On most platforms with Assistant, users can say "Talk to Google I/O 18" to learn more about the meeting, browse topics, and get more information.
