Google has opened ".app" TLD registration: HTTPS encryption required

On February 25, 2015, Google spent $25 million, beating 12 competing companies to acquire the top-level domain .app from ICANN, setting the highest transaction record for a domain name in one fell swoop. .app is a domain extension that many webmasters are very eager to have, because it can be connected to applications.

Today Google officially opened the registration of the .app domain name, claiming to be the world's first top-level domain name that requires HTTPS encryption. Most websites are now encrypted using HTTPS, but according to data provided by Mozilla, 32% of websites are still not encrypted using HTTPS.

From 0:00 on May 2nd to May 7th, Beijing time, users can register .app through Google's Early Access Program. After May 7, .app domains will be available to sites like GoDaddy, Google Domains or name.com.

Now users can check whether your favorite domain name is registered through the get.app website.
