Ubuntu 16.04 LTS Common Shortcuts

The Win key is the Super key in Linux

Launcher

  • Win (long press)  to open the launcher and display the shortcut keys
  • Win + Tab  to switch apps via the launcher
  • Win + 1 to 9  has the same effect as clicking an icon on the launcher
  • Win + Shift + 1 to 9  open a new window in the app
  • Win + T  to open the trash can

panel

  • Win (tap click)  to open the dash home page
  • Win + A  to open the dash application section
  • Win + F  to open the dash file section
  • Win + M  to open the dash music section
  • Win + C  to open the dash picture column
  • Win + V  to open the dash video section
  • Ctrl + Tab  switch between columns or tabs

switching

  • Alt + Tab  to switch applications
  • Ctrl+Alt+Tab  to switch applications in all workspaces
  • Alt + `  toggles the currently running application window
  • Alt + Q  to close the selected application or window

workspace

  • Win + S  to switch workspaces
  • Ctrl + Alt + Arrow keys to  switch workspaces
  • Ctrl + Shift + Alt + Arrow keys  move the current window to another workspace

window

  • Win + W  expands all windows of the current workspace
  • Shift + Win + W  to expand all workspace windows
  • Ctrl + Win + W  Flattens all windows of the focused app in the current workspace
  • Shift + Ctrl + Win + W  Flatten the current focus application window in all workspaces
  • Ctrl + Win + D  minimizes all windows (shows the desktop) can also use  Win + D
  • Ctrl+Win+Up  maximizes the current window
  • Ctrl + Win + Down to  restore or minimize the current window
  • Ctrl + Win + left or  right half maximize the current window
  • Alt + F4  to close the current window or  Ctrl + Q
  • Alt + Space  to open the window universal access menu
  • Alt + left mouse button drag  to move the current window
  • Alt + middle mouse button drag  to resize the current window
  • Ctrl + L  Explorer shows the path of the current directory
  • Ctrl+H  Explorer shows all files and folders (shows hidden folders)
  • Alt + Enter  displays attribute information for the selected file or folder
  • Alt + Home  to move directly to your home directory

other

  • Ctrl + Alt + T  to open the terminal
  • Ctrl + Q  to quit the current program
  • Alt + F1 + Enter to  search for computers
  • Alt + F2  Search Computer
  • Ctrl + Alt + L  lock screen, if you want to walk away for a while without letting others see your screen, equivalent to  Win + L
  • Ctrl + Alt + F1  to switch to the first virtual terminal
  • Ctrl + Alt + F2(F3)(F4)(F5)(F6)  to select a different virtual terminal
  • Ctrl + Alt + F7  to switch to the current login session
