Historical versions of the official version of Windows 10

1、Windows 10 1507

The first version of Windows 10, codenamed TH1, version 10240, was released in July 2015.

On July 29, 2015, Microsoft officially released the Windows 10 operating system. Windows 10 brings a converged operating experience, the main features are:

• Brand new Windows 10 application and application store, support UWP cross-platform experience;

• Microsoft Cortana, born in Windows Phone, was introduced to Windows 10 PC;

• Windows 10 introduces a "virtual desktop" feature, which was previously popular on Linux platforms;

• Windows 10 supports the windowing of Modern applications, and Modern applications can be displayed in split-screen, full-screen, and stacked windows;

• The Start Menu is back in Windows 10. Compared with the Start Menu in Windows 7, the Start Menu in Windows 10 has enhanced functions and integrates the Start Menu and Start Screen;

• Windows 10 brings a new "action center", which can centrally display the message push history, and supports quick setting buttons such as WiFi, Bluetooth, brightness, and airplane mode;

• Windows 10 supports tablet mode, and on 2-in-1 devices, users can switch between tablet mode and desktop mode by inserting/pulling out the keyboard cover;

• Windows 10 supports intelligent split screen, users can place the application in equal parts left and right, or place the application in four equal parts: upper left, lower left, upper right, and lower right;

• Windows 10 introduces a brand new Settings app, which is gradually being refined to replace the traditional Control Panel;

• Windows 10 has a new built-in Microsoft Edge browser, which is deeply integrated with Microsoft Cortana and supports handwritten notes;

• The Xbox app in Windows 10 has been redesigned to support cross-platform streaming and game recording;

• Windows 10 adds support for DirectX 12, which allows the graphics card to fully perform and play games more smoothly.

2、Windows 10 1511

The second version of Windows 10, codenamed TH2, version 10586, was released in November 2015.

The new features of Windows 10 TH2 are:

• Support to apply theme color to title bar;

• Windows Focus returns to Windows 10 Professional;

• The color of the right-click menu is more uniform, and more attention is paid to the operation experience of touch screen users;

• In the start menu, an icon has been added to the right-click menu of the tile of the Modern application;

• The start menu supports displaying more tiles, and the maximum number of tiles that the start menu can hold has been increased from 512 to 2048;

• Microsoft Edge adds new tab previews and improved performance;

• Microsoft Cortana has added support for handwriting recognition and courier tracking;

• Window split screen supports autofill matching. When you resize one window in split-screen mode, the size of the other window will also change;

• Added "Phone", "Messages", "Skype Video" and "Sway" apps.

• Microsoft Cortana supports sending text messages on Windows 10 PCs, which needs to be used with Windows 10 Mobile devices (phones);

• Added "Scan with Windows Defender" option to the right-click menu of files and folders;

• Supports direct activation of Windows 10 using the serial number of Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.

3、Windows 10 1607

The third edition of Windows 10, also known as Windows 10 Anniversary Update, codenamed RS1, version 14393, was released in July 2016.

The new features of Windows 10 RS1 are:

• The installation process of Windows 10 introduces the introduction of new features of "Ancient Poetry Edition";

• The UI layout of the start menu has been greatly revised, and "All Programs" no longer defaults to the secondary menu;

• The notification center UI is more beautiful and more powerful. Support notification folding and display pictures;

• Added Windows Ink workspace function, which consists of three parts, namely Notes, Sketchpad and Screen Sketch;

• Microsoft Cortana supports wake-up from the lock screen and syncs notifications on the phone to Windows 10 PCs;

• Microsoft Edge supports installing extensions;

• The UI layout of the Windows App Store has been greatly revised, and it supports resumed uploads after encountering network problems;

• Add home button, search box and sub-item label icons to the left column of Windows settings, and Windows settings support dark theme;

• Windows Defender icon style revision, adding offline antivirus function.

4、Windows 10 1703

The fourth version of Windows 10, also known as Windows 10 Creators Update, codenamed RS2, version 15063, was released in April 2017.

The new features of Windows 10 RS2 are:

• The introduction of "night light mode" can reduce the impact of blue light on vision at night;

• The start menu supports creating folders, just drag the icon of one application and stack it on the icon of another application;

• Added Paint 3D (3D drawing) application;

• Replaced Windows Defender for Win32 (desktop) with Windows Defender Security Center for UWP;

• Added screen touchpad function;

• Added game mode;

• Taskbar calendar supports lunar calendar display;

• Added "Mixed Reality Portal" application;

• The Windows settings are further improved, the previously scattered settings are further integrated, and the "Game" setting is added;

• The UI and functions of Microsoft Edge have been further improved, with the addition of an "e-book reader" function and a new "Automatically block Flash" function;

• Microsoft Cortana supports shutting down, restarting and locking the device, and is optimized for full-screen reading at long distances.

5、Windows 10 1709

The fifth edition of Windows 10 is also the latest version of Windows 10 as of press time, also known as Windows 10 Creators Update Fall Edition (before the official name was announced, it was temporarily called "Windows 10 Fall Creators Update"), codenamed RS3, version No. 16299, published October 2017.

The new features of Windows 10 RS3 are:

• OneDrive supports on-demand synchronization;

• A limited number of apps use the "Fluid Design" language;

• Windows Ink features have been greatly improved;

• The person icon or the avatar of a contact can be pinned to the taskbar;

• Support to view GPU usage status in Task Manager;

• Microsoft Edge opens and closes tabs more smoothly;

• Microsoft Cortana adds a "Visual Intelligence" feature;

• Added Mixed Reality Viewer application;

• Supports connecting Android devices and iOS devices.
