The relationship between the first-level router and the second-level router

How to connect primary router and secondary router

[Method 1: Insert the cable into the wan port of the secondary router]

1. The network cable of the lan port of the first-level router is connected to the wan port of the second-level router, and the computer is connected to any lan port of the second-level router to enter the management interface.

2. In the management interface, set the wan port of the secondary router, which can be set to "Automatically Obtain" (provided that it can be obtained), or "Fixed IP" (enter a network segment that is on the same network segment as the primary router's lan port and has not been accessed by the router). IP used), click "Save" after setting.

3. In the management interface, set the lan port of the secondary router, be sure to set an IP on a different network segment from the wan port of the secondary router (for example, the wan port of the secondary directory is 192.168.1.X, you can set the lan port to 192.168.2.X), click "Save" after setting.

4. Set the corresponding SSID and WIFI password in "Wireless Settings".

5. Keep the DHCP of the secondary router "on" and restart it.

Advantages: Do not worry about occupying the IP address of the first-level router, and the newly opened network segment can access 254 devices.

Disadvantage: The device connected to the secondary router is not on the same network segment as the device connected to the primary router, the device connected to the secondary router is on the internal network, and the device connected to the primary router is on the external network. . . . . Therefore, the device of the first-level router can be used as a server (TCP can be used, UDP is not tested), and can be connected by the client device of the second-level router, and vice versa (of course, the second-level router can set port mapping).

[Method 2: Insert the incoming line into the lan port of the secondary router, and use the router as a switch]

1. Connect the computer network cable to any lan port of the secondary router, enter the management interface, and be careful not to connect the incoming cable first.

2. In the management interface, turn off the "DHCP" server of the secondary router, set the restart, and enter the management interface again after the restart, and connect the incoming line of the previous router.

3. In the management interface, set the lan port of the secondary router, which can be set to "automatically obtain", or "fixed IP" (input an IP that is on the same network segment as the lan port of the primary router and is not used), the setting is complete Click "Save".

4. Set the corresponding SSID and WIFI password in "Wireless Settings", and then restart the router.

Advantages: Skip the following disadvantages, other aspects are better than method one.

harm:

1. If the secondary router does not turn off the DHCP service, it may cause confusion in obtaining IP addresses in the entire network, resulting in abnormality of the internal network including the primary network;

2. The access needs to occupy the IP of the network segment to which the first-level router belongs. If the IP of the first-level router itself is not enough, it may cause that the devices connected to the second-level router cannot obtain the IP.

Summarize:

Method 1: The IP obtained by the device connected to the secondary router and the lan port IP of the secondary router are in the same network segment

Method 2: The IP obtained by the device connected to the secondary router and the IP of the lan port of the primary router are in the same network segment (the DHCP service of the secondary router is closed, so the device obtains the IP of the lan port of the primary router).
