Azure Multi-Factor Authentication

What is multi-factor authentication?

Two-factor authentication is an authentication method that requires multiple verification methods, providing an additional important layer of security for user logins and transactions. It works by requiring two or more of the following authentication methods:

  • Something the user knows (usually a password)
  • Something the user has (a trusted device that cannot be easily replicated, such as a phone)
  • own characteristics (biometric identification system)

Azure Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is Microsoft's two-factor authentication solution. Azure MFA helps protect access to data and applications while meeting user needs for a simple sign-in process. It provides strong authentication through a range of verification methods, including phone calls, text messages, or mobile app verification.

MFA Setup Steps

1. Log in to the Azure portal as an administrator : Portal.azure.cn

2. Go to Azure Active Directory > Users and Groups > All Users.

3. Select Multi-Factor Authentication. Select "Multi-Factor Authentication"

4. A new page opens showing the status of the user's MFA.

5. Select Service Settings

6. In the pop-up interface, you can choose the authentication method provided to the user. In the example, we select all options.

 7. After saving, return to the Users interface. If you need to enable MFA in batches, you can make multiple selections in the following interface, and then click the Enable button.

8. If there are too many users, you can also try to use Bulk Update to enable MFA.

9. For users who have enabled MFA, the following prompt will appear when logging in, click Set up now.

10. In the first step, select the authentication method you wish to use.

11. In the example, we use phone SMS for verification, enter your SMS verification code in the second part.

12. Prompt that the verification is successful.

13. At this point, the MFA setting of the account has been completed, and subsequent logins to the Portal with this account require MFA verification.
