RancherOS v1.2.0 released!

RancherOS v1.2.0 was officially released on February 7th, Beijing time. From the v1.1 to v1.2 development cycle, we collected Bug reports and Feature requests from community users and business users. Thank you for your contributions.

During this cycle, the exposure of Meltdown and Spectre vulnerabilities has dealt a heavy blow to the OS industry. We also keep abreast of industry trends and update vulnerability patches to RancherOS as soon as possible.

Spectre Var.2 bugfix

For Spectre variant 2, we recompiled the kernel using the new GCC compiler with the Retpoline directive enabled. We did not use Intel's microcode patch, because the industry criticized this patch very deeply, and it has caused crash problems for many cloud vendors.

Based on the latest RancherOS v1.2.0 you can use this method to detect the fix status of Meltdown and Spectre:

sudo system-docker run --rm -it -v /:/host niusmallnan/spectre-meltdown-checker

ARM32 is no longer supported

Taking into account the development of 32-bit operating systems and the support of other Linux distributions, RancherOS no longer supports ARM 32-bit hardware. ARM 64-bit will continue to be supported, and you can still use it on the Raspberry Pi.
