Google will add special badges to premium Chrome extensions

As we all know, the Chrome browser has a large number and variety of extensions, which greatly expand the functionality of the Chrome browser, which is one of the reasons why many users choose Chrome. The ever-increasing content of the Chrome Web Store also makes it difficult for users to find or choose the one that meets their needs in the vast number of extensions, and the Chrome Web Store has repeatedly encountered malicious extensions.

To stop Chrome users from getting "lost" when searching for extensions, Google will start marking trusted developers with a special badge.

Some developers of Chrome extensions recently received an email from Google, in which Google wrote:

We're excited to announce two new expanded badges to help us achieve this goal: the Featured badge and the Established publisher badge. Both badges will appear on store pages over the next few weeks. Developers who earn these badges may rank higher in search and filtering , and may also appear in special promotions on and off the store. "

Based on Google's judging criteria, the Featured badge is awarded to extensions that follow Google's technical best practices and meet high standards of user experience and design. This badge is manually awarded to eligible extensions by the Chrome Web Store team. Because UX and design aren't a quantifiable standard, there isn't a specific guideline or guideline, but a clear store listing page and following Google best practices are some of the things that can be easily measured.

The Certified Publisher badge is automatically awarded to verified developers who have followed the Developer Program Policy and have a proven track record. That is, as long as developers who have not violated the rules of the Chrome Web Store can basically get the badge. In order to increase the influence and persuasion of the badges, Google also said that developers cannot spend money on the two badges.

In contrast, Chrome's competitor, Firefox, has already introduced similar features. Firefox puts a "Recommended" badge (pictured above) after extensions that meet the highest standards of security, functionality, and user experience. The badge allows users to easily pick out extensions that meet their needs from a wide variety of extensions, and developers can't pay Mozilla to join the program.
