Fedora 37 plans to use RPM 4.18 for better security

In addition to removing the old X.Org driver and deprecating the traditional BIOS  , according to foreign media Phoronix, Fedora 37 also plans to upgrade to the latest RPM 4.18 version.

Version 4.18 of the Linux package manager RPM brings a host of improvements, addressing a range of security issues addressed starting in 2021, including a whole class of symlink issues, some of which are related to reported CVE vulnerabilities.

In addition to security enhancements, RPM 4.18 features a stronger and more secure --restore function, as well as a new interactive shell for handling embedded macros and embedded Lua. In addition to this, the new rpmuncompress cli tool in RPM 4.18 simplifies unpacking from multiple sources, and the OpenPGP parser has numerous security fixes.

The plans for using RPM 4.18 in Fedora 37 and more details can be found on the Fedora Wiki , and more on the RPM 4.18 release at RPM.org .
